Step Two

Wash your hands, you sinners.

We now believe that God has drawn closer to us and we have the power to start setting more time to do all these things of God. We have already experienced success in prayer, Bible reading and studying, faithfully going to church, fellowshipping with Christians, personal and family devotions, reading good Christian books, listening to good Christian music, and sharing our faith with the unsaved. We now believe that He has given us the power to increase our spiritual intake of the things He wants us involved in. Let us act on that faith and schedule more of the things of God into our days.

IF THAT SOUNDS IMPOSSIBLE OR UNREASONABLE, WE NEED TO GO BACK TO STEP ONE. WE MUST NOT MOVE ON TO STEP TWO UNTIL WE ARE READY TO ADD MORE OF GOD TO OUR SCHEDULE.

Washing our hands is talking about doing what it takes to deal with sin. There is only so much time in a day. The more we spend our day with God, the less we spend it on sins, habits, and addictions.
Step Two involves us in letting God and the things of God crowd out those things that are wrong. By this time we should be at a place where we are extremely frustrated with our inconsistencies. All of the spiritual things we have been exposing ourselves too have been speaking against some of the ways we have been living. Another dissatisfaction should be in place by now. There should be a desire to quit watching, listening to, and reading certain things that are in favor of sin; or, things that are against God's principles. We will need to crowd these things out of our life. And, the way to crowd them out is to add more things of God to our day. At first our body won't like it. We will find ourselves feeling a little miserable. We will miss those things we use to do. At first the Bible, Christian literature, Christian music, meetings with Christian friends, and church won't satisfy our physical cravings for fun, entertainment, and pleasure. So we expose ourselves to TV, movies, literature, radio, and the internet that has worldly content. It isn't that we want to look at things we know God doesn't want us seeing. The people who produce these things have them mixed in with the entertainment and fun. Now we are faced with a choice. The battle is on.
