Understanding The Solution
To Divorce Part 2

Mat 5:3 (NIV) Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The blessing you get by being poor in spirit is, yours is the kingdom of heaven. The reward is incredible; being poor in spirit opens such an important door that the kingdom of heaven becomes yours.

Developing A Prayer
For Being Poor In Spirit
1. Let God Know You Want It
Jesus is going to be taking you through a prayer from Psalm 25 and using some of its concepts to help you pray and give God permission to help you be poor in spirit. It will be a prayer where you ask Him to help you get healed from your difficulties with divorce. You are acknowledging that you need to be poor in spirit so as to be able to be trained, helped, and healed.

2. Make It Your Prayer
As you go through this Psalm, just read the bolded words and shape them into a prayer to your heavenly Father. Pray them straight from your heart and He will hear and help you with being poor in spirit.

Psalm 25:1-2 (NIV) [A prayer] of David:

3. Identify Your Enemy
To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul; in You I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies (my issues with divorce) triumph over me.

To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul: This is you changing from trying to just get human help. Prayer is for you to make God your total source of getting your needs met. Shape your prayer to lift your soul up to God. In You I trust, O my God: The more you make God your source of supply, the greater your trust and faith in Him will grow. Structure your prayer so as to demonstrate how much you trust God for the solution to your struggles with divorce. Also, ask Him to help you with being poor in spirit so you will be able to trust Him more.

In your situation, your enemy is your struggle with divorce. You will need to change the above prayer to say something like: “Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my issues with divorce triumph over me.”

4. Let Hope Be Your Door Into God
Psalm 25:3 (NIV) No one whose hope is in You will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous (guilty of betrayal or deception) without excuse.

You might pray something like, Jesus, I am learning how to put my hope and trust in you. I sometimes find it difficult to trust my situations and life to anyone’s care. Help me become poor in spirit so I can be like David and say with confidence: ‘No one whose hope is in You will ever be put to shame.’ There are times of divorce issues where I need to be set me free by You; I have done some things that I am ashamed of. I would like You to empower me to be poor in spirit enough to allow You to help me with them.

5. Learn New Ways Of Praying
Psalm 25:4-5 (NIV) Show me Your ways, O LORD, teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long.

Using Psalm 25:4-5 you might say: Jesus, I have already tried my on way to be set free from divorce issues. Now I need you to show me Your ways, O LORD. I am ready to learn things that are beyond my abilities, so teach me Your paths. I have believed people I thought were experts who thought me all kinds of world philosophies. Now I am ready for You to guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long.

Jesus, I sometimes struggle with being teachable; I have been misled by people; I have failed myself; and I have sometimes felt like You failed me. Help me be able to open up and learn how to get Your help the right way.

6. Appeal To The Gift Of Mercy
Psalm 25:6 (NIV) Remember, O LORD, Your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.

Based on Psalm 25:6, you might pray: Jesus, remember, O LORD, and remind me about Your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. I want to learn more about Your mercy and love; help me understand them so I can relax and allow myself to learn Your powerful principles. I know I will grow from your teaching, if I can just be helped to be poor in spirit enough to experience your mercy and love. I want to be able to open up and share the deep secrets of my heart and mind with You.

7. Your Past, Needs Jesus’ Forgiveness
Psalm 25:7 (NIV) Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to Your love remember me, for You are good, O LORD.

Based on Psalm 25:7: You might pray: Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; I am suffering from decisions I made in my past. I ask You heavenly Father to start setting me free from those past decisions based on Your mercy. Teach me that mercy is a special attitude and character of God that, if asked for, can give me a new start on things I wish I hadn’t done in the first place.

Jesus, I know I have failed myself, other people, and You; one thing I sometimes find causing me to not be poor in spirit is not feeling like I deserve to be helped. I definitely had a part in getting myself in this mess in the first place. But, You have a love that has forgiven me for my past mistakes. Help me to accept Your forgiveness and allow You to start teaching me the right way to live life.
