Understanding Jesus’ Help
With Divorce

When Problems Won’t Go Away
Problems Help You Grow Spiritually
2 Cor 12:7-9 (NIV) To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Pride Hurts You
To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations: As you learn and pray for more and more Biblical principles, you can get to feeling like YOU are a better, mature, advanced, and superior Christian. This attitude is called, pride. James 4:6 (NIV) But He gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Being opposed by God is NOT a good thing. So, sometimes God has to allow us to experience something that just won’t go away easily.

Picking A Possible Solution
There was given me a thorn in my flesh: Almost everyone has one thing that presents a real challenge to them. Some people try to handle this issue by themselves; others try various programs of the world; there are those who try to just work around the problem; and, there are those who turn to Jesus. You are one of those who are looking to Jesus for the solution to this problem with divorce.

Considering The Source
A messenger of Satan, to torment me: The characteristics of your issue with divorce is, the source of it isn’t normal or natural. Your issue with divorce is a spiritual attack against you. Satan is trying to take you down; but, Jesus wants to help you learn how to respond with mighty spiritual power.

Using The Three Keys
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me: Prayer is definitely a powerful weapon for getting healing, deliverance, miracles, and results from God. BUT, what do you do when such a powerful tool fails to bring results? JESUS said in Matthew 7:7 (NIV) “ASK and it will be given to you; SEEK and you will find; KNOCK and the door will be opened to you.” When Jesus says: “ASK and it will be given to you.” and you ask and nothing happens, that is a real problem.

If The Three Keys To All Of Christianity, ASK, SEEK, and KNOCK fail to produce results like it did with Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:7-9, this gets your attention. ASK is the bottom of the tools that you can look to for anything you need. Even if you are having problems remembering to ASK, there is nothing you can do but ASK Jesus to help you remember to ASK. If ASK fails, you can’t find some principle that is below the ASK key.

You Are Doing The Right Thing
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me: ASKING is definitely the way to get all those things you need from Jesus. When you ASK, you are taking your eyes off of EVERYTHING ELSE and putting them on Jesus. If you start looking for some other procedure, you will be making a mistake. Just because the ASK key didn’t seem to work doesn’t mean you used the wrong tool. Paul asked three times; he included the SEEK key which brought intensity, passion, and pleading into his asking three times. A lot of the time it is just a matter of adding the SEEK or the KNOCK key to the ASK key. But, not this time for Paul.

You Don’t Get Power
But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness:” Weakness is NOT what most Christians are looking for when they are trying to get help from Jesus. Eph 6:10 (NIV) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Most Christians only see the be strong words. They don’t realize they are NEVER going to be strong. You are going to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power; but, that is the only way power is going to come your way.

Jesus’ Power Flows Through You
MY power is made perfect in weakness: If a water hose is full of dirt, obviously no water will flow through it. The hose may be attached to a faucet with plenty of water available; but, the hose isn’t empty. You have to be empty or weak so Jesus’ power can flow into you and through you to others. This can be very frustrating and scary but, if you think you know something, can do something, or have something, that is the area where you can’t get Jesus’ power, healing, blessings, deliverance, miracles, and help.

Get Jesus Involved In Everything
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, SO THAT Christ’s power may rest on me: How is Christ’s power going to rest on you? Therefore you must boast all the more gladly about your weaknesses. To be helped by Jesus, you will have to get weak in that area of your life. You will have to ASK for Jesus to help you give up, surrender, and yield to Jesus’ power in that area. So, what is going to help you diagnose your areas of strength, power, knowledge, confidence, esteem, and skills?

Living Life With Jesus
The problem you face with getting Jesus’ help WITH ANYTHING is understanding how life with Jesus works. There are six things you MUST understand about Jesus and how your relationship with Him works. Let Jesus take you quickly over them so you will understand what He expects of you.
  1. You have to learn that Jesus honors your God-given free will all the time; He will only do what you DESIRE Him to do.

  2. You have to understand that Jesus will only use Bible principles you are familiar with; if you haven’t STUDIED and learned a Bible principle, He won’t use it.

  3. You have realize that Jesus won’t help you with anything you don’t PRAY and ask Him to help you with; you have to pray and invite Him into your situation with divorce.

  4. You have to learn how to wait for Him to give you the faith you need so you can BELIEVE and be sure He is ready to allow His power to flow in and through you so you can win over your issues with divorce.

  5. You have to do EVERYTHING based on God’s LOVE. If you try to get Jesus to help you with something that is selfish and only beneficial to you, He won’t do it.

  6. You have to ACTUALLY do it! If you know it, understand it, and know how to apply it but don’t do it, you will fail to win over your issues with divorce; you must take FAITH-ACTION!
Once you start living on the basis of these six Biblical principles, you will start experiencing a greater degree of Jesus’ power-relationship. This power-relationship with Jesus will set you free from problems and issues that are trying to defeat you.
