Your friend has to understand why there is so much suffering on earth. They must understand that it is because God is allowing people to do what they want. He is giving us all a complete picture of what life is like when people are free to do anything they WANT, including leaving Him out of their life. They must see that, if left without God’s help, things on this planet will get worse and worse. Since your friend has been running their own life, since they have been using their God-given freedom of WILL to leave Jesus out of it, their life has automatically headed in a downward direction. They have chosen to be the way they are, the way they think, the way they talk, and do the things they do. Their God-given free will has been in charge of their life; and, they have chosen to live it by themselves.

If your friend is completely satisfied with their life and the way they are running it, then they will not want to say this part of this prayer. Since God’s WILL is pure, fair, gracious, merciful, and sinless, if they want to USE people, God’s will won’t fit with theirs. If they are okay with USING them for meeting their financial, sexual, physical, and emotional needs, then they aren’t ready to ask God (pray) to let His will be done in their life. They must be WILLING to ask Him to make these Kingdom changes in their philosophies, thoughts, feeling, words, and deeds.

You will need to help your friend understand that people are constantly talking about world peace. They wear peace symbols on their clothes and jewelry. However, they aren’t willing to do and be what it takes for THEM to start the peace movement. God’s will is going to be asking your friend to change and allow peace to flow in and through them.

If your friend wants to continue to exercise their free will but wants those around them to limit their behavior so they can have peace around them, then they aren’t ready to pray this part of this prayer. None of us want to be the only one who is being peaceful, loving, and kind while being mistreated by everyone else. Show your friend that if they ask God to put His will in their life, they are going to need to ask Him to also do His will in the lives of the rest of the people on this planet.

Right now, at this moment, heaven is in perfect harmony and peace. If God’s will starts being done on earth just like it is currently being done in heaven, true peace, harmony, and love will come into this world. How is that going to happen? One person at a time. The Bible makes it clear that everyone isn’t going to allow God’s will to be done in their lives; but, many will. The more people become Christians, the more God’s will, will be done on earth as it is being done in heaven.

If you and Jesus are able to help your friend want God’s will for their life and the people of this earth, then you will be able to lead them into saying these words: “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” And, if they do, they will get a will that is able to bring the happiness, excitement, and joy they have been trying to get all of their lives.
