PSALM 3

I Want To Listen To Your Words Rather
Than People’s Opinions

It’s Not A Group Decision
Psa 3:1 (NIV) A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom. O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!

There are times when friends let you down; they are people you trusted and gave your heart to. These people hurt you the most because they are people you loved and thought loved you. The question keeps coming in you mind: “How can they love me and treat me like they do?” You may be wondering what is wrong with you that even your friends turn against you. When your friends turn on you, it seems as though a lot of others do it too. You need Jesus’ help to allow you to see that all this is NOT a group decision. You need Jesus to help you take each person and each issue before God individually. He will help you see that HE loves you in spite of what humans are saying about you. His opinion of you is valid, true, real, and final.

You Don’t Need To Deserve God’s Help
Psa 3:2 (NIV) Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” Selah (pause and think about this situation)

Your associates may think they are justified in their behavior. They may be thinking that they represent truth. They think God will not help you because you don’t deserve God’s miraculous help; and, that is true. You don’t deserve God’s help; but, your relationship with God is based on grace. That means God is accepting you without you having to deserve anything. He doesn’t care about you deserving any of the things He does for you. He loves you and gives everything to you as a gift. He does what He does because you are His child; that makes His help a sure thing in your life. You just need God to help you not agree with them concerning His help and His love. You can’t live without His deliverance.

Let God Be Your Shield And Glory
Psa 3:3 (NIV) But You are a shield around me, O LORD; You bestow glory on me and lift up my head.

This answer of deliverance isn’t about you being worthy. It is about God’s great love, grace, and mercy. He is your complete protection from the hurtful words, actions, and attitudes that are coming against you. You just need to open your heart so you can feel His love; allow Him to show you He cares for you. His opinions must mean a lot more to you than ten thousand people. As long as God is your shield around you, you can survive any attacks people make against you. Not only will you survive, you will experience His glory on you. You will bask in the greatness of Who He is. Him and His glory are enough of a relationship to make up for any and all friends who turn against you. Because of His blessings on your life, you will be able to feel Him lifting your head up from depression, sadness, discouragement, frustration, feelings of defeat, feelings of rejection, and loneliness.

Always Cry Out To God
Psa 3:4 (NIV) To the LORD I cry aloud, and He answers me from His holy hill. Selah (pause and think about this truth)

It is great being able to come to God with all of your problems. It is important for you to know He always understands and has the power to heal you. But, it is also important for you to not be crying out to Him just to complain. You must cry out to Him so as to be healed. It is important for you to come to Him, not because you want something bad to happen to those who mistreat you. You need to approach Him for deliverance from all feelings of unforgiveness and desires for revenge. Let Him help you to be healed of all resentment and help you to forgive.
Pray Rather Than Worry
Psa 3:5 (NIV) I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.

Believe God will heal your swirling thoughts. He will help you stop thinking about what has happened to you. He will give you rest and peaceful sleep. If you lie down with complete trust in Him, you know He will take care of the whole situation without you worrying about it. Put the matter into God’s hands and refuse to take it back again. Let God help you know He will be able to do a better job than you can. Let Him help you rest in the knowledge that He is all wise and all powerful. Let Him help you know He will get the job done.

God’s Evaluation Is Final
Psa 3:6 (NIV) I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side.

Not one or ten thousand can bring enough against you to exceed the freedom God has provided. His love is greater than ten thousand that hate you. His forgiveness is greater that ten thousand that hold you guilty. His blessings are greater than ten thousand that wish evil to happen to you. Let His acceptance mean more to you than ten thousand who reject you. Let Him be all you need.

Punishment Belongs To God
Psa 3:7 (NIV) Arise, O LORD! Deliver me, O my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.

For those who will not turn from their wicked activities against you, you need to turn them over to God. He has called you to be used for His glory to help the needy. He has made you an instrument for Him to bless His people. If your enemies take you down, you won’t be able to do the ministry He has called you to do. If they persist in trying to stop you and the ministry He has called you to, then you need Him to destroy the weapons they are trying to use against you. And, don’t just ask this for yourself, ask it for all God’s people. Ask Him to destroy those who try to destroy them. God’s work must not be hindered in the slightest. You need Him to take away the power and influence of the wicked on all the earth.

God Is The Answer To All Your Needs
Psa 3:8 (NIV) From the LORD comes deliverance. May Your blessing be on Your people. Selah (take out time to meditate on this truth)

God’s people must look to Him for all their needs; He is your deliverer. You only survive by means of all His blessing on you; you can’t live without them. You need Him to pour out great blessings on you. You need Him to help you share these blessings with all those around you and with the needy of this world. You need to allow His blessings to flow through you into all His people.
