REACTION TYPE TWO

Mat 13:20-21 (NIV) The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since he has no root, HE LASTS ONLY A SHORT TIME. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away.

Doing What It Takes To Be Born Again

This is reaction number two of the four reactions people have to hearing the message on how to join God’s Kingdom. Let’s say you finish looking at all four reactions. You can see how one or more of them are possibly the way you will react to the instructions on how to become a citizen of God’s Kingdom. But, you decide to join God’s family and go ahead and try Christianity out.

Once you decide to give Jesus and His Christianity a try, you are given a prayer to pray. It will be the prayer that Jesus gives us to pray that allows you to “test drive” Christianity. Jesus will give you a “taste” of all the wonderful things He has to offer. You will become a person who understands Christianity well enough to be able to decide whether or not you like all the things Jesus has to offer.

Doing What It Takes To Try Christianity Out

So, you start living according to Jesus principles for life. You devote yourself to only doing those things that are good for you, other people, AND God’s plan for everyone’s life. When some of your friends want you to do things that Jesus is against, you refuse. When your boss, a leader, or an authority wants you to do things that are a win situation for the company or group BUT NOT for the client or person involved, you refuse. When you start to do something that is best for you but not for your friends, you pray and get Jesus to help you only do good for you AND your friends.

People Are Making Fun Of Me

As you explain to your boss or some authority in your life why it isn’t a good and successful business to cheat, mislead, and sin against your clients, customers, employees, and other people, some will understand and allow Jesus to change them. But, others will reject you and Jesus’ principles for life. You will also find this true of your friends; some will like this new you and others will start avoiding you. If you are a person who cares more about what people say and think rather than what God says and thinks, you will leave Jesus and His Christianity and go back to your old self.

I Don’t Know, You Tell Me What To Do

You can allow other people to make decisions for you. If you want to, you can let the criticism and social pressure of your non-Christian “friends” push you out of God’s Kingdom. You can allow the threat of losing your job be more important than what Jesus wants. You can allow people who are making fun of you or persecuting you to cause you to quit Christianity. This condition is Jesus’ explanation of the seeds that fell on shallow, rocky soil. Personal issues that have their roots in people, their opinions, their actions, and their words, require a healing in the attitudes and character of your heart.

Allowing Jesus To Remove The Rock

1. Pray For Help

We all know that other people’s opinions have quite an affect on how we believe, think, feel, talk, and act; but we don’t have to deal with this issue alone. Jesus is going to be available for you to talk to Him (pray) and ask Him for His power to help you stick with Christianity, get help with your struggles with fear, and help you enter into His eternal Kingdom.

2. Get New, Supportive Friends

Also, God has special places where you can find true friends who will encourage you to continue on your journey toward God’s Kingdom. A good church is a place where people will accept you and help you stay the course. Their opinions will be encouraging and helpful. AND, we will be here working with Jesus to teach you and train you on how to help people who are resisting you.

3. Share Jesus With Those Around You

If you allow Jesus to, He will teach you how to change bosses, spouses, clients, employees, customers, children, and the new people you meet. A lot of people don’t know what the benefits are to being born again. Rather than allowing people who are wrong to pull you back in, you will help many of them change.

4. Believe That You USED TO BE A People Pleaser

You may be a person who has always been a people pleaser. This may be the one area where you have always had major problems in your life. If it goes against the beliefs of your friends, it may be like a rock down in your heart that resists anything that Jesus has to say. But, if you ask Jesus to break up that rock of resistance and heal your heart from going along with the crowd, He will help you stand on your own two feet. He will help you stand up to all the social pressure and stay locked into freedom from difficulties with fear. He will help you with a determination to spend eternity with your heavenly Father.
