Psa 4:1 (NIV) For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David. Answer me when I call to You, O my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; be merciful to me and hear my prayer.

God is the only answer to all your problems. All other “solutions” are just temporary relief; or, they are false hope. It is vital that you know He is the only One Who loves you. Thank Him for not giving you what you deserve. Thank Him for giving you grace. Thank Him for being open to all your prayers. It is such a blessing to have Him right there waiting for your every call. What would you do if He were not there to bless and heal your life?

Psa 4:2 (NIV) How long, O men, will you turn My glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods? Selah

Tell Jesus you are sorry that you have not turned to Him and served Him like you should. We have hurt His reputation in the eyes of those who don’t know Him. Ask Him to forgive you for letting other things take His place. He deserves your total worship and praise. You need to be helped to spend more time with Him.

Psa 4:3 (NIV) Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for Himself; the LORD will hear when I call to Him.

We need to be made more godly. He is so loving and faithful to you; He never lets you down. Pray for His help so you will stop letting Him down. Call out to Him for a better relationship with you. Let Him know that you want all He has to offer. You need His help to know He always hears you when you call out to Him. You need His power to help you want to always hear Him when He talks to you. Ask Him to help you be just as faithful to Him as He is to you.

Psa 4:4 (NIV) In your anger do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. Selah

Jesus tells us, in the Bible, to not let the sun go down while we are still angry. Stay awake at night and seek Jesus’ help with your anger. When you wake up early, let Jesus search your heart. Ask Him to help you not just talk to Him; ask Him to help you listen to what He has to say to you; He is incredibly wise. He has a lot more important things to say than you do. But, you must want to hear His wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. You need to live by means of the truths He speaks into your life. His truth sets you free from the desires of the body, the pleasures of the world, and the temptations of the devil. Thank Him for His truths.

Psa 4:5 (NIV) Offer right sacrifices and trust in the LORD.

Jesus must give you His power so you can offer obedience as a sacrifice to God. You need the anointing of the Holy Spirit so you can present your body as a living sacrifice to Jesus. You must put all your faith, trust, reliance, and dependence on Him and all He has to offer. Let Him know you see Him as wonderful and that you love Him very much.

Psa 4:6 (NIV) Many are asking, “Who can show us any good?” Let the light of Your face shine upon us, O LORD.

We often look in all the wrong places for something to help us with our life. We need Jesus’ forgiveness for not always turning to Him for everything. We fail in this area because we don’t see God’s greatness and beauty. You need a transformed heart so you can see Him as everything good. If you don’t want anything that comes from somewhere else, you will be able to only trust Jesus to filter out those things that would hurt you. If you always see His truth, you will be able to live by it. Let Jesus light up your life so you can see Him and His goodness; then you will reject everything else.

Psa 4:7 (NIV) You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound.

The things your heavenly Father has to offer, as you walk in His Spirit, are so much better than the things of this world. The joy you get from serving and obeying Him bring you more pleasure than all the pleasures the world has to offer. You need Him to keep you from being confused about the difference. You need to let Him help you see the greatness of His joy; that will help you hate the things of this world. They never did and they never will satisfy your heart. God and all He has to offer are the only things that will bless you; and, they will never stop blessing you.

Psa 4:8 (NIV) I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

You can relax in God’s hands; there is nothing that can happen to you that God doesn’t allow. You need to trust Him with all your circumstances; nothing is too big for Him. Let Him be in charge of your life; let Him take care of all your needs. Let Him watch over you; He is protecting you from all harm. Let Him resist all your enemies; let Him bless you with all the riches in His glory. Ask Him to help you go to sleep knowing that everything is taken care of by Him. Live in the safety of His power and love.
