From birth to your present age, you have been learning how to live as a human. But, you are only going to be a human for a very short period of time. Much of what you are learning so you can live as a human will cease to be important in eternity. Things will be VERY different in the spirit realm in eternity. If you don’t use your human life to learn how to live as a child of God, you will fail to fulfill your purpose for getting ready for your eternal life. Eternity isn’t just a long time; it NEVER ends.

2 Tim 2:15 (AKJV) Study to show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. In order for Jesus to teach you how to live as a child of God, He needs to take you through the Scriptures in the Bible. He needs to help you break them down into small enough principles so you can understand and live them. He is working with you on Hebrews 10:22 and teaching you how to understand it. Then He is teaching you how to apply principles to it that PUT it into your behavior.

Jesus said in John 8:32 (NIV): “Then you will KNOW the truth, and the truth will set you free.” You just have to allow Him to teach you the truth so you can KNOW what it is. If there is a truth in the Bible that you don’t know, Jesus won’t use it to set you free. You must STUDY the Bible so you can get to know more and more of Jesus’ truths. First, you had to know that Hebrews 10:22 existed. Second, you had to know what it said. Third, you had to allow Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, to teach you what it means. Fourth, you are now having to allow Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, to help you get it into the fabric of your life.

The five steps in Hebrews 10:22 are making you aware of what Jesus wants to do in you. The Six Biblical Principles are the tools that Jesus will use to take these Biblical truths and install them into your life. “Let us draw near to God” is just telling you what you need to do. It ISN’T telling you how to draw near to God. So, Jesus is taking you through these five steps in Hebrews 10:22 a little bit at a time, as He ALSO teaches you how to yield to The Six Biblical Principles. During today’s study, He will be emphasizing the importance of the second Biblical principle, which is STUDY. But first, let Jesus take you into a review of the five steps in Hebrews 10:22.

You have a problem with marriage; the law of the Old Testament simply tells you that this issue is wrong, which is something we all need to know. It tells you that there are aspects of this problem that are causing you to sin, also very important for you to know. Then it tells you to quit committing those sins, which is what we all need to do. After you have been properly warned, if you go ahead and sin anyway, you have broken God’s law.

Heb 10:22 (NIV) Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. This verse and a lot of other Scriptures in the Bible can be like the Laws of the Old Testament to you. Just like they told you things like in Exodus 20:13-15 (NIV) “You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal.” you were being told WHAT to do and not HOW. Now, here in Hebrews 10:22, you are still being told WHAT to do and not HOW. So, let Jesus teach you HOW to go about getting His and the Holy Spirit’s training and power to do what you couldn’t do through human effort and world training.

Why did you break the law? Because you didn’t have the power to fulfill the law. The law didn’t give you power to obey its commands; it just made you aware of what is right and what is wrong; it was up to you to live it. The law was based on human effort; it was the human’s responsiblity to try to carry it out. But, since humans weren’t able to carry it out, Jesus came with a better plan.

Romans 8:3 says: “For what the law was POWERLESS to do in that it was weakened by the SINFUL NATURE....” The reason we all have or had some kind of problem like the problem with marriage, is because we have the spiritual disease of a SINFUL NATURE. The SINFUL NATURE is in your body; and, it causes it to fight anything that tries to take sinful pleasure away from it.

Rom 8:3-4 (NIV) For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the SINFUL NATURE, GOD DID by sending His Own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so HE condemned sin IN SINFUL MAN, IN ORDER THAT the righteous requirements of the law MIGHT BE FULLY MET IN US, who do not live according to the SINFUL NATURE but according to the SPIRIT.

Your battle with marriage is a battle with the SINFUL NATURE. It is true that it sometimes looks like your battle is against other people or circumstances. However, your reaction to marriage issues is your REAL battle; and, that battle is with the SINFUL NATURE located in your body. The Holy Spirit is going to help you take the five steps from the Bible and empower you to draw near to God. From salvation on, you will NEVER have to do ANYTHING alone again. You can if you want to; but, you will NEVER HAVE TO do anything alone from now on. The Holy Spirit is going to make this battle you are having with marriage to be a totally different type of battle. You now have the Bible, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus to lead you into The Victorious Christian Life

Okay now, let Jesus help you take a look at the next part of Hebrews 10:22. To cleanse us from a guilty conscience. The heart is the place where your system of conscience is. It is the area of your heart where the Holy Spirit gives you guidance. Your conscience either accuses or excuses everything you do, making you aware of what is helping you and those around you and what is hurting you and those around you. He uses your conscience to cause you to feel good or bad, right or guilty about what you are doing or saying; BUT, you didn’t get the power to obey your conscience until you got Jesus in your life.

When you were in sin, the Holy Spirit spoke to your conscience to help you realize you needed a Savior to help you. He was the One Who helped you seek to be set free from things that were providing you pleasure and sometimes extreme pleasure but were destroying your life.

Do you remember what the pleasure is called that HOOKS you and pulls you into destruction? It is called BAIT! It is like the fish food we put on a hook so fish will eat the food and get caught by the hook. Sin is spiritual BAIT, a spiritual LURE, or a spiritual TRAP. Those things God has labeled sin are ALL BAIT which are specifically designed to TRAP you! But, now that you have Jesus to help you obey the Bible and your conscience, you have the power to avoid those things labeled sin and do those things labeled righteousness.
