There are steps to getting where you need to be with God. Some people take one or two steps in that direction and then stop. That is what Solomon did. He started out looking to God for helping him be king. But, just as soon as he found out how smart God had made him, he dropped God went all out with his own mind. As the years went by, he found out the difference between HAVING incredible human wisdom and YIELDING to the wisdom that is inside God. Now, let Jesus show you the types of relationships people develop with God.

You may have a relationship with God that is based on your needs. Or, you may have a relationship with God that is based on what you think God wants from you. It is possible that you have a relationship with God that involves you trying to be loved, valued, or appreciated by Him. However, it is best to let God tell you what kind of relationship He wants with you.

One of the first steps you can take is one of getting your needs met by God. You can pray for money, posessions, positions, popularity, prestige, power, pleasure, or accomplishments. And, that would be different from you just trying to go out and get them without God. It is always better to go through God for your human needs. You would at least be filtering those things that came your way through God. That would protect you from getting things that Satan was trying to send your way.

You might want your first step toward God to be you seeking God’s wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. This is the step Solomon took. As you will see, that is a superior or closer step toward God. It is a step where you are wanting to see the way God thinks. It takes you into the principles, philosophies, and methods of God. The concepts of God are much of what the Bible is all about. It takes God’s way of thinking and makes it available to you.

You might want your first step toward God to be you seeking a close and intimate relationship with God, Himself. Looking to God for your finances and physical needs is good; looking to God for seeing His plans for your life is even better; but, looking to God for a close relationship is the best possible pursuit you can have. This is what Jesus wants to help you seek first. After that becomes your first priority, then your physical and mental needs will be added to you.

Ask Jesus to help you take all three steps toward Him. Let Him be your guidance and source for all your physical needs. Ask Him to also help you have His mind on all your decisions for life. Let His wisdom, understanding, and knowledge flow into all of your plans and philosophies. But, ask Him to help you first take this most important step of seeking a RELATIONSHIP with God. Ask Him to help you develop a close and intimate relationship with God through which all your other requests and prayers are built on.
