The Character Of God’s Voice

Day One    Page One

This Week’s “Walking With Jesus” Reading
Recommendation:
Mark Chapters 11 And 12

Understanding Jesus’ Character
We react to certain voices in certain ways. We not only know various people by name and by their face. We know what kind of person they are. We may not like someone’s voice because it is too high, too loud, or too different from most people, but we can still like the person because of their character. We can agree with what someone says even though we know their character isn’t good. We know they aren’t living the things they say. However, Jesus’ voice is in direct compatibility with His character. What He says is how He lives. The way He talks represents Who He is. He is totally consistent in voice, deeds, and character. That is why He is trustworthy. He never says one thing and then lives or does something else. He never says one thing while meaning something different. He never misleads us by neglecting to tell us the WHOLE truth. He won’t tell us what we want to hear just because it might offend us or hurt our feelings. He is ALWAYS loving, honest, and truthful.

Jesus says He loves us and then dies for us. His character has been proven beyond any reasonable doubt.
No matter what it takes, we know Jesus will do ANYTHING to help us be blessed now and in eternity. His character has been lived in front of us through the Bible and in our hearts and lives. Therefore, we need to know, we know His voice based on His character. If we are hearing a voice that comes as a thought or feeling in our mind and heart, it is going to represent some kind of character. Based on the character of that thought or feeling, we can decide who the source is. If someone starts talking to us, we can decide whether or not we should believe it based on the character of those words. If those words don’t represent the character of Jesus, then we can freely reject them. If someone treats us in a way that isn’t like Jesus, then we can know their treatment isn’t an indication of something Jesus wants us to know. All we have to do is reject it.

Pray that Jesus will help you reject everything that doesn’t represent His character. Ask Him to help you not be hurt or damaged by thoughts, feelings, words, or deeds that don’t show forth His character. Ask Him to help you only listen to and accept those things that are in line with His character.
