It seems like you are able to tap into a lot of sources so as to get your needs met. Jesus is saying that you MUST make Him your only source for the events and needs of your life. It is true you can handle a lot of things without His help. But, the effect it has on your spiritual growth is huge. Suppose you cheated all during school and college and got your degree. But, that would mean you didn’t get the education you needed for your future profession. It would look like you beat the system. But, in that case, you ended up cheating yourself.

When Jesus tells you that without Him you can do nothing, that means all other efforts will end up being meaningless. That isn’t a threat, that is Jesus laying out the facts of life. The reason God has you on this planet is to learn how to live in the spirit realm. Eternity is all about living in the spirit realm. Living as a human is just giving you a training place for you to learn all you need to know and all you need to become to live as a child of God in eternity. If you make Jesus your source, you have picked the very best Teacher in all of existence.

Jesus wants to use the physical laws and systems of this world to show you how your life is going to be run in His Kingdom. If you just learn how to live on this planet as a human, you are only learning how to live in the natural realm of this earth. You will cheat yourself out of God purposes and plans for why you are here. If you don’t let Jesus apply the human and earthly principles to your spiritual training, you will miss the whole training program for eternity.

BUT, if you let Jesus know you want to remain in Him for everything you get, do, and say, He will get you ready to fulfill your greatest potential. The exciting thing is, Jesus will train and empower you to not only be successful in eternity, He will help you be extremely successful on earth as a human. It may not be clear to you, right now, how you are going to go about remaining in Jesus. However, if you ask Him to help you learn these things from the Holy Spirit, as He takes you through the Gospels, the Spirit will show you how to stay locked into Jesus for everything you are and have.
