Be Empowered To Suffer
4.  Endured the cross. Step four is introducing us into a vital aspect of preparing our heart for Ministerial Spiritual Warfare. Our body has been brought into spiritual worship. Rom 12:1 (NIV) ...offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Even though our body didn't want to, through the power of the Holy Spirit we put it into God's service of spiritual worship. We started taking it to church, bowing its knees in prayer, making it pick up and read the Bible, and many other spiritual activities. That enabled us to get the spiritual food we needed to become strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

Eph 6:10 (NIV) Finally, be strong IN THE LORD and IN HIS MIGHTY POWER.

FAITH
Jesus' ministry is waiting to work through us in mighty power. People are waiting to be helped by Jesus. We are wanting to start doing Jesus' ministry. What is holding us up? Ephesians 6:10 gives us permission and carries the power to move us into that mighty, powerful ministry of Jesus. If we believe that this Scripture has the right to empower us, we can go out and do what we have been empowered to do. All we have to do is take up our cross and follow Jesus into full ministerial effort.

SACRIFICE
Mat 16:24-25 (NIV) Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Me will find it.

This part doesn't sound like fun; but, it is. The cross only has to do with the body. We are spirit beings. We don't need to try to save our physical life. We want to find our spiritual life. Our body is temporary. Our spirit is going to live forever.
We got our body and our temporary life from our earthly father. It isn't something we need to care about. Our heavenly Father is the Father of our eternal spirit and our eternal life.

Heb 12:9 (NIV) Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live!

It's only going to feel like a sacrifice to our temporal body as we do ministerial service to God. Our eternal spirit is going to love doing all these things. We are going to love having the power of Jesus' ministry flow through us into the life of helpless, hurting people. As we continue to do this, we will grow to love it more and more.

FOCUS
If we constantly identify with the aches, pains, and fatigue of our body, we will give in and not do the full work of Christ. We offered our body as a living sacrifice because it wasn't willing to do righteousness and stop doing misdeeds of the flesh (sin). Taking up our cross and following Jesus is dealing with the body's frailty rather than its sinning characteristics. Jesus already died for our sins on His cross. Our cross isn't going to do anything for that. This same Scripture goes on to say: "For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Me will find it." This is talking about giving our life of Time, Intellect, Money, and Effort over to God. Reserving our life here on earth for our own interests, cheats us out of being mightily used for God. We must die out to self and give our life completely over to God. Even if we're only spending time on things that aren't sin, it still doesn't make us live a life of Christ's ministry. There are a lot of things in this world that are neutral as it relates to sin. When we give up everything that doesn't fall into God's will and way, is when we have moved into Ministerial Spiritual Warfare. That is when we experience Christ's ministry flowing through us. But, as Christ's ministry starts flowing through us, we experience persecution. That doesn't sound like fun, but it can be.
