I Am Learning How To Win
This Is The Source Of My Problem
Rom 7:18 (NIV) I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. Jesus, I am trying to win over my issues with marriage and something is fighting me. Take me through this verse and help me understand what it is the solution has to be applied to.
- I know that nothing good lives in me: Jesus, please explain this because I have the Holy Spirit living inside me. 1 Cor 6:19 (NIV) Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God? You are not your own. Help me understand that there are three parts to me so that when the words you, I, me, and my are used, I won’t lump them all into one person. Help me, for the sake of this study, accept there are at least two parts to me so I can know what is good about me and what is actually bad.
- I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature: Jesus, help me know where the sinful nature is. Rom 7:5 (NIV) For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death. Make it clear to me that if I am going to be healed from my marriage issues, then I must accept that the reason I am going through what I am going through has it basis flowing from my body.
- For I have the desire to do what is good: Jesus, You have given me the desire to live the victorious Christian life; but, for some reason I haven’t been able to do what is good. I haven’t been able to fight the good fight of the faith. You have empower me to able to take hold of the eternal life to which I was called when I made my good confession in the presence of many witnesses (1 Tim 6:12). So, in order for me to fight the good fight of the faith, help me know where my enemy is so I can attack it.
Jesus, I know I have the desire to do what is good and I know that desire isn’t in my body, then where is it? Rom 7:22 (NIV) For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; There I am! Thank You for letting the real me be finally identified. And, thank You for letting my attitudes of the real me be established. I delight in God’s law!
Jesus, help me see that You and I aren’t having a problem with marriage because of ME. You and I are having the problem because of my body. It has been given a voice and an expression of its animalistic desires on all humans. Teach me that when Adam and Eve sinned by eating from the Tree Of The Knowledge Of Good And Evil, that fruit gave their body a powerful influence on their spirit or inner being (Genesis 3:1-11). Then as they had children, they passed that sinful nature to them. Then it went through them to all humans thereafter.
- But I cannot carry it out: Jesus, show me why I can’t win over my struggles with marriage. Let Romans 7:22-23 explain why: For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; BUT, I see ANOTHER law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. I, like most Christians, would NEVER guess that the reason I am going through something like marriage issues is because of my body; I didn’t even know it and I were separate.

I Must Want And Hate
I Delight In Righteousness
Rom 7:22-23 (NIV) For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; BUT, I see ANOTHER law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members.
- For in my inner being I delight in God’s law: Jesus, help me always keep in mind that this attitude I have in my spirit (inner being) is my evidence that I am a TRUE Christian. Teach me that people who call themselves Christians but aren’t LACK the WANT and HATE of Romans 7:15. For what I WANT to do I do not do.
Jesus, teach me that there are three types of people who are not doing righteousness. New and untrained Christians aren’t; the new ones aren’t because they haven’t had enough time to learn how. The untrained ones aren’t because the mature Christians haven’t done their job and trained them. BUT, there are also a group who call themselves Christians who do NOT want to do righteousness and DO want to sin. Even though they call themselves Christians, they fail the test of Romans 7:15.
But what I HATE I do. Jesus, help me always be a TRUE Christian by You empowering me to feel this way about sin. If that ever changes, empower me to RUN to God and ask Him to put that hatred back in my heart toward sin. Teach me that the WANT and the HATE of Romans 7:15 is vital to my healing from my issues with marriage. Make it clear to me that I may not be treating myself, other people, and God’s plan the way I should; but, empower me with a deep desire to change; help me see that this is a big requirement of God.
- BUT, I see ANOTHER law at work in the members of my body: Jesus, help me see that this is what I am experiencing as I battle with marriage issues. Teach me that if my body doesn’t get what it wants, it will try to punish me. It will send me feelings through my heart that will cause pain and discomfort. It will try to get its own way at all costs. It doesn’t care about my the spirit person; it doesn’t care about right and wrong; it doesn’t care about who it hurts; it doesn’t care about God or His plan. If it isn’t getting what it wants, it is willing to shut down my whole emotional, relational, financial, physical, and spiritual system.
- Making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members: Jesus, help me be able to cope with the difficult and disappointing thing about my body; it is so disappointing seeing how much it is able to control me. It can make me a prisoner to all kinds of difficulties, struggles, and problems that I can’t seem to get rid of.
Jesus You, however, are asking me to join You and start following Your leadership and training. Help me be ready for You to ask me to do somethings with my body that is new to me. It will take me into the spiritual realm. Help me be ready; because at first, I will look at them and not know what to do with them. And, even though I have already been exposed to them, they will seem foreign to me. But, help me not despair, You will guide me in and through the procedures successfully.
