You are struggling with spending and you want God’s help with it. God wants to help you; but, He wants to do it through a special relationship with you. He requires you to get His help by you giving up human effort and world training. He want you to start looking to the Holy Spirit for your DESIRES, for your help with your STUDIES, for guiding your PRAYERS, for helping you get Jesus’ faith so you can BELIEVE, for making sure you have God’s LOVE, and for empowering you to take FAITH-ACTION with Jesus. The answer: The Holy Spirit is going to help you do it through six Biblical principles.

Rom 7:15 (NIV) I do not understand what I do. For what I WANT to do I do not do, but what I HATE I do. If you WANT to do good but are failing to do good, you have the Christian attitude but are using the wrong procedures. If you HATE doing wrong but are doing wrong anyway, you have the Christian attitude but are using the wrong procedures for living the Victorious Christian life. As long as you have this Romans 7:15 DESIRE of WANT and HATE, you are a true Christian. You are a new or untrained Christian; but, you are a true Christian.

As a new or untrained Christian, you don’t always obey the Bible because you have been applying human effort, world training, and are being controlled by your body. You are either a new Christian who hasn’t had time to learn how to live the Christian life. Or, you are an untrained Christian who hasn’t had a mature Christian teach you how to live the Christian life. You are fulfilling the first of The Six Biblical Principles by having the DESIRE of WANT and HATE, you just need the second principle in The Six Biblical Principles of training or STUDY on how to move on from here.

Rom 7:18 (NIV) I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in MY SINFUL NATURE. For I have the DESIRE to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. Christianity only works through the Holy Spirit and the power of Jesus. You will NEVER be able to live the Christian life on your own. Mat 11:28 (NIV) Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. John 15:5 (NIV) I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me YOU can do nothing. This is how Christianity works!

Rom 8:1-2 (NIV) Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, BECAUSE through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life SET ME FREE from the law of sin and death. New and untrained Christians fail a lot; but, PRAISE GOD, they keep having that vital DESIRE-attitude of WANTING to do good and HATING the fact they are doing wrong, bad, or evil. Prior to salvation and justification, you were governed by the laws of your conscience. EVERY TIME you sinned against the Holy Spirit’s laws spoken into your conscience, you were made spiritually dead. Sin kept you separated from God; you were CONDEMNED.

Since you have been saved and justified through Jesus, the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death. The law of sin and death required YOU to do what is right and not do what is wrong. The law of the Spirit of life requires that YOU join or cooperate with the HOLY SPIRIT in doing what is right and not doing what is wrong.

Rom 8:13 (NIV) For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if BY the Spirit YOU put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. If you allow Jesus to teach you how to cooperate with the Holy Spirit, you will start DOING those good things you WANT to do. And, you will STOP DOING those wrong, bad, and evil things you HATE doing. That gives you the results that you have been TRYING to get through other procedures.

Rom 8:3-4 (NIV) For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending His Own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in sinful man, IN ORDER THAT the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, WHO do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. NOW, let Jesus break this down for you; He will help you understand how Christianity works by using the parts of this passage.

For what the law was powerless to do: All the law of sin and death can do is tell you what is right or wrong. It has no authority or power to make you do it; this is because you have a God-given free will. So, since the law can’t give you the power you need to live it, all it can do is make you aware of the fact that you are sinning. Then when you use human effort and world training, you find out that THEY lack the power to accomplish it; that causes you to fail every time. This leaves you still struggling with spending.

For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by THE SINFUL NATURE: You have a VERY powerful enemy located in your body. It is animalistic, selfish, insensitive, demanding, and unloving. The Bible calls this drive inside your body “a sinful nature.” Rom 7:22-23 (NIV) For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. Let Jesus quickly explain this sinful nature to you:

• For in my inner being I delight in God’s law: This is YOU the spirit being; and, this is where your DESIRE of WANT and HATE are.



• But I see another law at work in the members of my body: This is that sinful nature in your body that is is animalistic, selfish, insensitive, demanding, and unloving.



• Waging war against the law of my mind: Your MIND is in your spirit or inner being; it is what is delighting in God’s law. The SINFUL NATURE in your body is waging war against the law of your mind.



• And making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my [body] members: Bad news, because all you HAVE KNOWN is how to use human effort and world training, you HAVE BEEN losing the battle, LIKE ALL THE REST OF US. But, good news, you are starting to take the six steps into The Six Biblical Principles that the Holy Spirit will empower you to use. You HAVE the first step of DESIRE of WANT and HATE; and, you are applying the second step of STUDY.

For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending His Own Son: Without Jesus, you were doomed; but, through Jesus’ salvation and justification you were provided with a clean, perfect record with God. That gave you all the rights and privileges of a child of God. You now have DIRECT access to God and all He has to offer. That perfect record also gave you DIRECT access to the power of the Holy Spirit. But, because you don’t know some vital, Biblical truths, you are living in the Romans chapter seven life. HOWEVER, step by step you are STUDYING and moving into the Romans chapter eight life.

For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending His Own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering: When you accepted Jesus’ death as your death to all your past, present, and future sins, you also accepted Jesus’ life of being raised from the dead as your life. Gal 2:20 (NIV) I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me. The Holy Spirit is giving you the power-life of Jesus. That empowers you to win over your issues with spending and every other problem in your life.

For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending His Own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in sinful man. Now, let Jesus help you understand what His condemning sin in sinful man means:

1. Because of what Jesus did in your place, you accepted His death and resurrection from the dead as your death and your life.


2. Because you accepted His death and resurrection from the dead as your death and your life, you NOW have a clean, perfect record with God.


3. Because you have a clean, perfect record with God. You have the Holy Spirit living inside your body.


4. Because you have the Holy Spirit living inside your body, you have DIRECT access to all God has to offer you.


5. Because you have DIRECT access to all God has to offer you, you can allow JESUS to teach you how to take advantage of it.

For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending His Own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in sinful man, IN ORDER THAT the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us: Your clean, perfect record with God gave you DIRECT access to all your heavenly Father has to offer IN ORDER THAT the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in YOU! In other words, your clean, perfect record GRADUALLY starts becoming a reality in your life. All those things you are currently being credited for through grace and mercy will start flowing out of you into your relationships with yourself and those around you. The laws of God were pointing you in the right direction, you just didn’t know how to apply The Six Biblical Principles to getting it flowing into and through your life.

For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending His Own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in sinful man, IN ORDER THAT the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, WHO do not live according to the sinful nature: All your emotions that are negative, hurtful, and damaging are now being brought under your control through the power of the Holy Spirit. Even though you can’t actually change your heart that is producing emotions that are debilitating, hindering, and controlling you, you and the Holy Spirit can crowd them out with emotions that are healing, empowering, and setting you free.

WHO do not live according to the sinful nature: You might be thinking that the sinful nature only deals with murder, hate, cheating, lying, or coveting other people’s things. The sinful nature involves ALL those things that are hurting you. If you live according to the sinful nature, it will produce emotions of depression, discouragement, anger, frustration, greed, covetousness, desires for revenge, and all sorts of negative emotions in your heart. Letting Jesus teach you how to stop living according to the sinful nature will empower you to submit your emotions to Him. He will give you positive emotions that will fill your day with love, joy, excitement, happiness, and positive expectations.

For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending His Own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in sinful man, IN ORDER THAT the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, WHO do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit:

1. The first step into living according to the Spirit is to DESIRE to submit your emotions to Jesus.


2. The second step into living according to the Spirit is to learn how to submit your emotions to Jesus through the STUDY of the Bible.


3. The third step into living according to the Spirit is to PRAY and ask God to empower you to submit your emotions to Jesus.

That is what you and Jesus will be doing next; you and Jesus are currently applying the principle of STUDY into living according to the Spirit Next, in the workbook, you and Jesus will work together to PRAY and ask God to empower you to live according to the Spirit. You have the DESIRE of WANT and HATE. You are currently STUDYING these Biblical truths with Jesus in this textbook; and next, you will be PRAYING to Jesus and asking Him to empower you to live according to the Spirit in the workbook. Can you see how The Six Biblical Principles direct your attention to God rather than you having to apply your world training or human effort to living according to the Spirit?
