PSALM 6

Forgive me for my sins, God.

Don’t Ignore It
Psa 6:1 (NIV) For the director of music. With stringed instruments. According to sheminith. A psalm of David. O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.

When we sin we have to realize we have done wrong; then we have to confess it to our heavenly Father. In our relationship with the Law, it would demand punishment for the things we have done. God has every right to be upset with us. We MUST NOT just forgive ourselves and fail to see that we DID sin against His Word. If we forgive ourselves, justify or excuse what we did, we won’t feel very sorry for having gone against what we knew was the right way to go. God always warns us in advance; He speaks to our conscience to let us know He is against what we are getting ready to do. Because of our conscience we knew it was wrong; now we must ask for God’s forgiveness. Then we must ask for His anointing power to enable us to never go in that direction again.

Appeal To God’s Mercy And Grace
Psa 6:2 (NIV) Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am faint; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are in agony. It is very important to realize we don’t deserve God’s forgiveness. Instead, we need to appeal to His grace which gives us what we don’t deserve, which is forgiveness. And, we must appeal to His mercy which doesn’t give us what we do deserve, which is continued punishment. The consequences of our decisions to sin cause us to feel weak and faint. Our whole body starts hurting from the guilt and pain of our decision to sin. We need to ask God to heal our relationship with Him.

Experience The Pain
Psa 6:3 (NIV) My soul is in anguish. How long, O LORD, how long? It is important to allow our emotions to feel the pain and feel the wrongness of our decision. We must allow the pain to help us see how important it is to do things God’s way. Just the consequences of the decision alone hurts us in all kinds of ways. Plus, we suffer because of the silence we experience from God. The punishment from God comes from Him allowing us to suffer the consequences of our decision. He will allow us to experience a time of not being set free from those consequences that naturally come from our decisions. During these times, we can feel the missing intervention of His knowledge, understanding, wisdom, power, and love. He will wait for awhile for us to feel the full effects of our decision.

Know It’s Because Of God’s Love
Psa 6:4 (NIV) Turn, O LORD, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.

It was our decision; we are getting the results we created; but, we need to be set free from our mistake. However, help from God will only come when we move into a repentant state and get His forgiveness. We must ask Him to deliver us from the pain we have inflicted on ourselves by our decision. We need to ask Him to save us from ourselves and our immature decisions. We need to ask Him to save us because He never stopped loving us. We must know we can count on His love or we will never come to Him for help. We must know He will never give up on us. We must know that the silence is a necessary punishment because of His love for us. We must know He does everything He does because of His unfailing love. But, we can hope that the punishment will end soon. We must just keep realizing that He knows what is best for us. In the mean time, we must just keep desiring to get back where we were together with Him. Tell Him that you love Him.

Use Your Body Correctly
Psa 6:5 (NIV) No one remembers You when he is dead. Who praises You from the grave? Another reason we must want to reestablish our closeness with God is because it would kill us to not have Him. We can’t live without our close relationship with Him. As long as we live, we can praise God and worship Him with our earthly body. Once our body goes to the grave, we can’t use it to show Him how much we love Him. It is good to ask Him to let us live a little longer so we can use our body for worship rather than sin. We need to ask Him to help us establish such a love relationship with Him that it can be carried into all eternity.
Feel Sad
Psa 6:6 (NIV) I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. This is a time when we need to feel sad that we have let God down. It is a time to grieve as we realize that we have failed Him so many times. Sometimes we feel like we should just give up and stop this constant routine of apologizing, then sinning, apologizing and sinning again. But, that is Satan trying to cut us off from God. The truth is, we can’t live without Him. We make a lot of mistakes; but, our only hope of growing into a better relationship with God is to keep coming back no matter how many times we fail. So, here we are again asking Him to please set us free from this sadness.

Realize You Opened The Door
Psa 6:7 (NIV) My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes. We must always keep in mind that the reason we are suffering is because we opened the door to much of the problems we are having. And, we wouldn’t be missing our close relationship with God at the same time. It is time to admit that it will be much better when we get a closer relationship with Him. Having problems with people and not having a very close relationship with God is too much for us. The slightest problems we run into in life become much bigger when we aren’t as close as we need to be with God. But, it doesn’t do any good to promise to stay pure; we lack the power to fulfill the promise. However, we CAN draw closer to God so He will draw closer to us. It is a time to seek Him with all we are.

Be Thankful
Psa 6:8 (NIV) Away from me, all you who do evil, for the LORD has heard my weeping. Once we have cried out to God and repented of all our failures, it is time to start thanking Him for His help. Thank Him for hearing and answering your prayers. Thank Him for coming close to you. Tell Him that the only way you are going to win against sin and the influences of those who do evil is to have Him very active in your life. Start seeking to have all He has to offer. Tell Him that you don’t just want to have the bare minimum of His presence. Let Him know that you want to spend so much time with Him that you become one with Him. Tell Him that He is more important than anything or anyone else. Tell Him you want Him to be the priority of your life.

Appreciate Grace And Mercy
Psa 6:9 (NIV) The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer. It is now time to thank God for not giving you what you deserve, through mercy. And, it is time to thank Him for giving you His presence that you don’t deserve, through grace. Tell Him that you realize that His is a wonderful God. Let your heart be filled with appreciation and praise for His love and forgiveness. Thank Him for accepting your prayer.

Trust, Believe In, Rely On, And Depend On God
Psa 6:10 (NIV) All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed; they will turn back in sudden disgrace. We win against temptation and sinning when we put our total trust in God. We win against those things when we spend our time and live our life with Him. Life is so much more victorious when we are working together with God. Ask God to help you see this fact and help you devote all you are to this relationship. God has defeated strong enemies that you had no chance of winning against. Without Him life is horrible. With Him life is a wonderful experience. Ask Him to help you seek Him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Then praise His holy name.

Let God know that these prayers and praise you just did were done in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. That puts the promises and power of Jesus’ name into effect.
