PSALM 8

God, I want to praise You forever.

State Your Reasons For Worship
Psa 8:1 (NIV) For the director of music. According to gittith. A psalm of David. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens.

Worship isn’t just about God; it is about our attitudes, emotions, beliefs, knowledge, love, and relationship with Him. It isn’t until we say all these things that it has an impact on us. Praising God can also take things we KNOW with our mind and brain and transfer them into the affections and feelings of our heart. Praise, thanksgiving, worship, and appreciation BUILD our relationship with God. God doesn’t love us more, when we praise Him. We literally love Him more, when we praise Him. So, let’s spend some time giving our heart and mind a chance to consider how great God is.

There is no one and nothing that compares to God. Everything He is and does is beautiful. We need to worship Him because of His character. We need to worship Him because of His mighty works. We need to worship Him because of His life giving Word. We need to worship Him because of all His promises and provisions. We need to worship Him because of His beautiful creation. And, we need to worship Him because He made us so we could worship Him forever.

Use The Small Things For Praise
Psa 8:2 (NIV) From the lips of children and infants You have ordained praise because of Your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. Through the lips of children and infants God has shut the mouths of His enemies. The small, insignificant, foolish things have boggled the minds of those who consider themselves wise. The children and the infants trust Him. The powerful, rich, and wise are brought down because they can’t understand.

Use Creation For Praise
Psa 8:3-4 (NIV) When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, Psa 8:4 (NIV) what is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that You care for him?

VERSE THREE: The heavens testify of His greatness. They reveal His beauty and love. They bring us to our knees in adoration and praise. The deeper we look in space the more we see His majesty. The larger we see the universe the more we see His unlimited power.

VERSE FOUR: All this helps us realize how insignificant we are. We are on one little planet in a vast universe. And, we are just one person among billions of people who are on this one little planet in this vast universe. Yet, God knows your name and how many hairs you have on your head. Our heavenly Father is THE great God. His greatness makes it easy for us to worship Him and praise His holy Name. He alone is worthy of praise. We need to thank Him for caring for us while owning the universe and much, much more. We don’t know why He would be willing to care about us. But, we should be very glad He does. We need to give all glory, praise, and honor to Him.
Praise Him For His Generosity
Psa 8:5 (NIV) You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. The fact that He is going to raise you up, give you a new, glorified body, and let you rule and reign with Jesus shows us a generosity that boggles our minds. Not only does He care for you, He has great plans for you.

His generosity is so huge that our heart and mind can’t take it all in. The fact that He would send His Son to die for you, needs to break your heart open with torrents of love. He never stops going farther and farther beyond anything we deserve. His love is eternal and it is aimed at you. Let there be nothing you wish to hold back from Him. Let there be nothing He has to offer that you don’t want or need. Want to receive it all so as to use it to bring praise, glory, and honor to your heavenly Father’s name. Let this praise, glory, and honor flow from you to all you can share this with. He is worthy of praise from every person who has ever existed.

Praise Him For His Plans For Your Future
Psa 8:6 (NIV) You made him ruler over the works of Your hands; You put everything under his feet: We need His help to never hold back anything from the needy. We need to realize that He has made so much available that there is no reason to be stingy. He has been generous to us. Let Him make you into the same type of person. Ask Him to help you take on the looks and character of Him, your Father. Want His generosity to flow through you to everyone you get the privilege of influencing.

Praise Him For Your Surroundings
Psa 8:7-8 (NIV) All flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, Psa 8:8 (NIV) the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.

VERSE SEVEN: God’s generosity goes on and on just here on earth. With it you can start to see down the corridors of eternity. None of us would want anyone to miss seeing just how great God is. As we look at all God has given us, we can see why He has commissioned us to tell everyone we can. This is a message that is beyond any human’s expectations. Many have no idea how wonderful He is. Many are struggling to earn it when He has provided it without price. Many are struggling to own it when it all belongs to Him; and He is giving it to His people. All we have to do is receive His Son and we get adopted into His family. That makes us the inheritors of it all.

VERSE EIGHT: We need God’s help to not try to get something the wrong way. We must want to go through Him to inherit the earth. We need Him to make us into a good steward of the time, opportunities, and resources He has currently given us. We need His help to use them to get as many into His new, coming kingdom. We must want everyone possible to come to Him and share in His great generosity.

Praise Him For Who He Is
Psa 8:9 (NIV) O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! Our heavenly Father is THE great and wonderful God. We need to want to praise Him and worship Him constantly. We need to want to give glory and honor to His Name in front every person we get the opportunity to speak to. We need to want to let all know that He is God, that He is a majestic God, and that He is a generous God.
