Putting On The Belt Of Truth

1. Putting On The Belt Of Truth Through Obedience
1 Pet 1:22 (NIV) Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.

The belt of truth is an obedience that produces love. We are to be truthful because lying to them hurts them and our relationship with them. When we lie as a Christian, we hurt what people think about Jesus and His Christianity. Obedience to the truth comes out of a deep love for one another; it is a true love from the heart. The belt of truth is motivated by that love. Eph 4:15 (NIV) Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him Who is the Head, that is, Christ.

The person wearing the belt of truth will spend all the time it takes getting wisdom from God on how to tell someone the truth without needlessly hurting their feelings.

We successfully resist the works and temptations of Satan when we tell the truth in love. But, this must be done on a moment-by-moment, issue-by-issue basis. When we are speaking the truth in love, we are keeping the belt of truth on. When we AREN’T speaking the truth in love, we are WILLFULLY taking the belt of truth off. We put it on and keep it on by being empowered by Jesus to always be speaking the truth in love.
2. Putting On The Belt Of Truth Through Sharing
Always telling people the truth in love is a vital part of this belt of truth. But, there is a truth that we are to tell that has an even bigger meaning. It is comes through sharing our faith, preaching, teaching, and living the life of truth before people. It is us telling people The Truth; Jesus is THE TRUTH. John 14:6 (NIV) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 7:18 (NIV) He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the One Who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.

Those who work for the honor of Jesus are people who have the belt of truth on. We can tell people the truth (not lie to them) and do it for our own honor. When we tell people about our heavenly Father and the Son He sent for our salvation, we are being people who are wearing the belt of truth. Presenting the gospel is a part of wearing the belt of truth. This is a truth that is even greater than telling something that is true.

3. Putting On The Belt Of Truth Through Jesus
John 14:6 (NIV) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Since Jesus is THE Truth, we must not just go around telling the truth AS WE SEE IT. We must allow Jesus to keep telling us what the truth is. It is easy for us to THINK we know what the truth is; but, it is possible for us to be misled, fooled, or misinformed. Keeping the belt of truth on requires a constant flow of communication from Jesus.
