Keeping The Belt Of Truth On Through Sanctification
Let’s breakdown 2 Corinthians 10:5 and see how upset we get when the belt of truth resists some of the things that are wrong that we watch, read, hear, and feel. This verse will be broken down and unpacked as we go through this week’s studies and prayer.

1. Keeping The Belt Of Truth By Casting Down Imaginations
2 Cor 10:5 (AKJV) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Let’s continue breaking down and unpacking 2 Corinthians 10:5. And, let’s continue seeing how upset we get when the belt of truth resists some of the things that are wrong that we watch, read, hear, feel, and want to do.

We are literally taking the belt of truth off when we think or feel non or anti-biblical things.

2. Keeping The Belt Of Truth On By
Casting Down Imaginations Through Your Eyes
Mat 6:22-23 (NIV) The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

Now, are we really upset? These concepts are messing with our times when we need to sit down and relax. These are times when we are wanting to be entertained, have fun, turn our brains off. We think these things don’t affect our real life. We think that we can put them into a special category in our brains under “fiction.” But when we fall to some temptation to sin, we can’t believe how easy it was to give in. Then we have the nerve to wonder why God didn’t do what He promised.

3. Keeping The Belt Of Truth On By
Casting Down Imaginations Through The Way Out
1 Cor 10:13 (NIV) No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Often, when we look on the couch in front of the TV there is our belt of truth laying there. We took it off and left it home and got zapped at the office. A temptation came that we weren’t able to resist and we couldn’t find any way of escape. When was this temptation resistible? When did we have the way of escape available to us? At home sitting in front of the TV. The way of escape was the remote control.
4. Keeping The Belt Of Truth On By
Casting Down Imaginations Through Quality
Another thing to think about is the quality of the belt of truth we are wearing. Having our belt of truth on or off isn’t the only issue. We can have a thin, small belt of truth that doesn’t cover many issues. Or, we can have a wide, thick belt of truth that is ready for anything that comes our way. So, let’s learn as much Scripture as we can. Then, let’s pray and ask Jesus to help us apply it to our life. And finally, let’s put our faith, trust, reliance, and dependency on Him to do what He says He will do.

5. Keeping The Belt Of Truth On By Casting Down
Every High Thing
Casting down ... every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God: This is where we take a look at our “real life” belief system. This isn’t an examination of our church belief system. “High things” are well known and accepted things that everyone who is anybody knows to be true. “High things” are the business practices at work that don’t line up with the Word of God. “High things” are world training that we put in the place of what Jesus teaches. We can take our belt of truth off by using a “high thing” to reject a truth from the Word of God.

6. Keeping The Belt Of Truth On By Casting Down
Every High Thing In Your Decisions
  • When the Bible tells us to do one thing and we say: “God gave me a brain ...” and do something else, we just created a high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.
  • When the Bible tells us to do one thing and we say: “EVERYONE does it that way” and do something else, we just created a high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.
  • When we are doing a special business deal and the Word of God tries to sabotage the whole thing, and we say: “Hey, God knows we are only human, no one’s perfect,” we have just created a high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.
  • When we say: “I am not sure that Scripture really applies here” and do something we don’t know FOR SURE it is the will of God, we just created a high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.

Any truth-resisting statement or decision will take us down that path of high things. When we take this type of approach, that is when we take the belt of truth off and lay it aside. High things are supposed to be cast down and God’s Word is supposed to be put in their place. That is how the belt of truth is kept on.

The more we apply to our lives the truth of God that we read and study
and hear preached and taught, the more we wear the belt of truth.
