This week we will be spending time looking at the Scriptures that deal with the issues of righteousness. Jesus and His Bible will help you better understand your breastplate of righteousness.

We put on, keep on, and strengthen the breastplate of righteousness through constant hungering and thirsting for it: Mat 5:6 (NIV) Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

The breastplate is attacked because the world is resistant to righteousness. Persecution is a satanic attack: Mat 5:10 (NIV) Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.

Human righteousness cannot be used to protect us from satanic attack: Mat 5:20 (NIV) For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Trying to look righteous before people will not protect us from satanic attack: Mat 6:1 (NIV) Be careful not to do your “acts of righteousness” before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

If we want our physical needs met, we are going to have to put the breastplate of righteousness on first: Mat 6:33 (NIV) But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these THINGS will be given to you as well.

Part of the reason we get attacked by people is because the Holy Spirit is making sinners miserable: John 16:8 (NIV) When He comes, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.

The Gospel introduces us to the righteousness of God. Salvation provides it for us to put on: Rom 1:17 (NIV) For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
