THE HELMET OF SALVATION

This Thing Looks Important
Take the helmet of salvation: This is for the command center. There are four major control mechanisms that are to be protected by being inside this piece of armor. They decide how the rest of the person is going to function. If this area experiences a direct hit without proper protection, the whole person is completely debilitated. The battle is over. 2 Cor 4:4 (NIV) The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

The four control mechanisms that reside here are our mind, will, heart, and brain:
1. The mind of our spirit.
    a. Our will.
    b. Our heart.
2. Our human brain in our body.
    a. Conscious
    b. Subconscious

The Mind Of Our Spirit
Working With The Brain In Our Body
1 Cor 2:11 (NIV) For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. The mind of the person’s spirit is our conscious thinking process. This part of the human’s spirit decides what the person wants the brain to recall and store in memory. It evaluates life experiences and pulls data from the brain for processing. Mat 12:35 (NIV) The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. It then processes our experiences and memories and comes up with conclusions.
Our Mind And Heart Working Together
Our will is a part of our mind. The will then takes the conclusions from the mind and decides what our belief system is going to be and what we will decide to do or not do. Rom 8:5 (NIV) Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

The heart is also a part of our mind. Rom 5:5b (NIV) God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, Whom He has given us. The person’s heart contains all the emotions. The heart keeps all of our data from only being facts. The heart puts a positive or negative value on all the data the brain recalls, the mind ponders, and the will believes or disbelieves and decides to do or not do. Mat 12:34 (NIV) You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

    The Command Center
  • Our mind reasons, ponders, and evaluates information.
  • Our will takes the evaluated information and decides what we are going to believe about it and what we are going to do with it.
  • Our heart causes this belief system to be stored in the subconscious portion of our human brain. This information adds a depth of positive or negative feeling toward the issues. This helps to build our belief system or system of conscience. The Holy Spirit also work in this area by causing us to feel guilt for any bad things we do or good things we fail to do. John 16:8 (NIV) When He comes, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.
  • Our brain stores the data for the mind in the conscious part and the data for the heart in the subconscious part.
The helmet of salvation is provided at salvation to be put on. It is to be worn as a protective cover over all four control mechanisms.
