Jesus, since I have already prayed this prayer for being born again, becoming a Christian, and joining God’s family, I have already experienced how powerful it is. As I go over The Lord’s Prayer as a prayer from me to God for today, let me experience that same power. Let this prayer be a powerful prayer that is my constant door to my heavenly Father. Since I am a member of God’s family and a citizen of His eternal Kingdom, let it be a prayer that helps me get my daily needs met.

Jesus, in Matthew chapter 6, verses 9-13 (Mat 6:9-13), You told me how to ask my heavenly Father for the privilege of being born into His family and entering His Kingdom to live there forever. Help me understand that typically this prayer is used for that purpose only once. Then once that has been done, I shouldn’t need to pray it again for being born again, becoming a Christian, or becoming a member of God’s family; Show me that it is typically a onetime prayer-purpose. However, help me see that I can use this prayer on a daily basis for getting my spiritual and physical needs met for each day. So, help me take a look at the prayer in general then help me be trained as it is broken down into smaller parts so it can be more meaningful for me.

Jesus, You said that this, then, is how I should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one (Mat 6:9-13).” Thank You for giving me such a powerful and effective prayer to pray so I can start my day out right each day.

Jesus, help me break this prayer down so I will understand what it is I am asking from God, my heavenly Father. Show me that it is important to pray this prayer with as much understanding as possible. God knows when I am just reciting something and when I am praying from my heart. Help me understand what it is I am asking for. Let each sentence be what I really want for today.

Jesus, help me stick with those needs I have for this day and leave the pressures, problems, and needs of tomorrow for tomorrow. Help me trust God that He will take care of all my future needs then.

Jesus, since You said in Matthew 6:9-13 that this, then, is how I should pray: Help me follow Your instructions with understanding, wisdom, sincerity, and faith.

Jesus, since You are giving me this prayer and telling me that this is how You want me to start praying to my Father, Who is in heaven, help me do this every day. Help me get better at praying so I will be able to take the principles of this prayer and use them as a guideline for additional prayer comments. But for now, help me just pray this prayer word for word as I look at the purpose behind each sentence. Teach me that this prayer incorporates the main requests I will have for each day of my life.
