Jesus, I thank You that once I decided to let You provide me with Your wonderful Christian Life, I become God’s child. He became my heavenly Father and immediately the Spirit of God started helping me feel a special attachment to Him. Show me that since I can’t see my heavenly Father, my time spent talking with Him is vital to my close relationship with Him.

I am only used to having conversations with people I can see or thinking thoughts with myself. But, with the advent of technology, I do have a lot of experience with talking or communicating with people whom I can’t see. Help me take these experiences and apply them to the process of prayer, let my conversation with God grow easy.

Jesus, at first it was a little awkward starting up a conversation with my heavenly Father. Help me feel comfortable talking out loud to Someone Who isn’t there in a physical body. Help me feel comfortable even though the room looks empty. Teach me what to do in order to set the stage for beginning a time of talking to God.

Jesus, when I pray, help me go into my room, close the door and pray to my Father, Who is unseen. Then my Father, Who sees what is done in secret, will reward me (Mat 6:6).

Help me understand that during my first few times of meeting with my heavenly Father, I really don’t need anyone around making me feel self-conscious. I need a place of privacy where I can learn how to talk to my God without interruptions. And, I need to be able to learn how to pray without others watching me.

Jesus, help me see that the important thing I need to realize is that my Father is there in the room with me. You explained in Matthew 6:6, that my heavenly Father sees what is done in secret.

Jesus, it is natural that I have some questions about my first prayer time with God. Help me with these questions, as I start learning how to talk with Him:

• What can I expect with such a meeting with God?


• How will He answer back?


• What should I say to Him?


• Should I talk out loud?


• Do I need to use special words that sound like the words used in church?

Jesus, show me that the best way to get these answers and to get started praying is to pray The Lord’s Prayer You gave me. Teach me that The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer that I need to pray every day anyway. So, this will add another dimension to my praying this prayer each day. Help it set the stage for how to start talking to my heavenly Father. Let it help me know what to say, know how to say it, get the conversation going, open my mind and heart so I can hear from Him, and let it help me feel comfortable talking with Him.
