Jesus, You have shown me how I can influence my heart by making sure I store up good things in it. You taught me how the Holy Spirit influences my heart by speaking to my conscience; and You showed me how to respond to the Holy Spirit. Now show me how the Bible influences my heart. Teach me that if I feel a warning from the Holy Spirit speaking to my conscience, my mind will have to be convinced that the feeling is valid. The way it is convinced that the feeling is valid is to do research. Show me that my mind makes its decisions based on facts or at least information it “believes” to be facts.

Jesus, help me do my research through searching the Scriptures in the Bible. Let that be so that power will come with it to help me get rid of any resistance from my heart, my mind, or my will. Show me that if the changes in my heart, mind, and will are from God, then the new me will see improvements in my struggles with alcohol. If the Holy Spirit and the Bible are telling me to do or not do something, help me see that I may experience a battle or resistance from my body, the things I taught my mind and heart through world training, and temptations of the devil that I have yielded to in the past.

Jesus, I now realize that I have received a freedom that I don’t quite understand. You didn’t just set me free from my past, present, and future sins, You gave me my God-given free will back. Make it clear to me that bait, lures, and traps from Satan are all designed to take away my God-given free will. Show me that once I sinned ONE TIME, my body, the world, and Satan started dishonoring my God-given free will. I was like a fish caught on a hook, my body, the world, and Satan started “reeling” me in. I experienced control, pressure, strong temptations, habits, addictions, and drives that used every technique possible to force me to do what they wanted. I found myself doing and not doing things AGAINST my will.

John 8:32 (NIV) Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Jesus, at first I thought that all I got was freedom from all the wrong, bad, and evil things recorded on my record. Teach me that the truth of the matter is, I got a lot more freedom than I ever imagined or could expect. John 8:36 (NIV) So if the Son sets you free, you will be free INDEED. I didn’t realize it but, once I was born again, I got my God-given free will back. Help me understand that, that puts a lot of power, opportunities, and responsibilities on ME.

Jesus, You said in Matthew 11:28 (NIV): “COME TO ME, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Make it clear to me that if I don’t COME, You won’t go ahead and pursue me anyway. John 15:4 (NIV) REMAIN in Me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must REMAIN in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you REMAIN in Me. Show me that if I don’t REMAIN, You won’t keep me from leaving. John 8:31 (NIV) To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, “If you HOLD TO My teaching, you are really My disciples.” Help me see that if I don’t HOLD TO Your teaching, You won’t force me to. I am free indeed!

Jesus, help me understand that You are willing and able to help me with my issue with alcohol. But, the problem I face with getting Your help WITH ANYTHING is understanding how life with You works. Since my life with my body, the world, and the devil have been so invasive and enslaving, it has been a drastic change in freedom that I am not taking advantage of; help me start taking advantage of it. Sometimes I find myself waiting on God WHILE He is waiting on me. Now that I have my God-given free will back, show me what my responsibility is, so I can get Your help.

1. Jesus, help me learn how intensely You honor my God-given free will all the time; help me see that You will only do what I DESIRE You to do.


2. Jesus, help me understand that You will only use Bible principles I am familiar with; if I haven’t STUDIED and learned a Bible principle, You won’t use it.


3. Jesus, help me know that You won’t help me with anything I don’t PRAY and ask You to help me with; teach me that prayer is my way of inviting You into each situation I want help with.


4. Jesus, help me learn how to wait for You to give me the faith I need so I can BELIEVE and be sure You HAVE given me Your power to win over each situation I want help with.


5. Jesus, help me do EVERYTHING based on God’s LOVE. Teach me that if I try to get You to help me with something that is selfish and only beneficial to me, You won’t do it.


6. Jesus, help me ACTUALLY do it; teach me that if I know it, understand it, and know how to apply it but don’t do it, I will fail at each situation I want help with; empower me to take FAITH-ACTION. Join me in faith-action; empower me to take faith-action; but, help me understand that I must be WILLING to join You in that way of life.

Make it clear to me that once I start living on the basis of these Six Biblical Principles, I will start experiencing a greater degree of Your power-relationship. Because these principles help me understand what my responsibility is, it gives me six things I know I must do to invite Your help into my life. Teach me that this power-relationship with You will set me free from problems and issues that are trying to defeat me.

Jesus, empower me to DESIRE to submit my heart to You. Jesus, empower me to be willing to STUDY and learn how to submit my emotions to You. Jesus, empower me to be willing to PRAY and ask You to help me submit my emotions to You. Jesus, empower me to fix my eyes on You until You give me the faith to BELIEVE You HAVE given me the power to submit my emotions to You. Jesus, empower me to LOVE others enough to share my training and breakthroughs with them so they can submit their emotions to You. Jesus, empower me to join You and take FAITH-ACTION and live on the basis of the fact that I have the power to live an emotionally submitted life. Show me that these six things are the way for me to do my part in submitting my emotions to You.
