Workbook For
“Praying The Psalms”

PSALM 8

God, I want to praise You forever.

State Your Reasons For Worship
Psa 8:1 (NIV) For the director of music. According to gittith. A psalm of David. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens. God, there is no one and nothing that compares to You. Everything You are and do is beautiful. I worship You because of Your character. I worship You because of Your mighty works. I worship You because of Your life giving Word. I worship You because of all Your promises and provisions. I worship You because of Your beautiful creation. And, I worship You because You made me so I could worship You forever.

Use The Small Things For Praise
Psa 8:2 (NIV) From the lips of children and infants You have ordained praise because of Your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. Through the lips of children and infants You have shut the mouths of Your enemies. The small, insignificant, foolish things have boggled the minds of those who consider themselves wise. The children and the infants trust You. The powerful, rich, and wise are brought down because they can’t understand.

Use Creation For Praise
Psa 8:3-4 (NIV) When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, Psa 8:4 (NIV) what is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that You care for him?

PRAYER FOR VERSE THREE: The heavens testify of Your greatness. They reveal Your beauty and love. They bring me to my knees in adoration and praise. The deeper I look into space the more I see Your majesty. The larger I see the universe the more I see Your unlimited power.

PRAYER FOR VERSE FOUR: All this makes me realize how insignificant I am. I am on one little planet in a vast universe. And, I am one person among billions of people who are on this one little planet in this vast universe. Yet, You know my name and how many hairs I have on my head. You are THE great God. It is easy for me to worship You and to praise Your holy Name. You alone are worthy of praise. Thank You for caring for me while owning the universe and much, much more. I don’t know why You would be willing to care about me. But, I am very glad You do. All glory, praise, and honor I give to You.

Praise Him For His Generosity
Psa 8:5 (NIV) You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. The fact that You are going to raise me up, give me a new, glorified body, and let me rule and reign with Jesus takes the concepts of generosity to a level that boggles my mind. Not only do You care for me, You have great plans for me.
Your generosity is so huge that my heart can’t take it all in. The fact that You would send Your Son to die for me, breaks my heart open with torrents of love. You never stop going farther and farther beyond anything I deserve. Your love is eternal and it is aimed at me. There is nothing I wish to hold back from You. There is nothing You have to offer that I don’t want or need. I want to receive it all so as to use it to bring praise, glory, and honor to Your Name. Then I want share this with everyone I can. You are worthy of praise from every person who has ever existed.

Praise Him For His Plans For Your Future
Psa 8:6 (NIV) You made him ruler over the works of Your hands; You put everything under his feet: Help me never hold back anything from the needy. Let me realize that You have made so much available that there is no reason to be stingy. You have been generous to me. Make me into the same type of person You are. I want to take on the looks and character of You, my Father. I want Your generosity to flow through me to everyone I get the privilege of influencing.

Praise Him For Your Surroundings
Psa 8:7-8 (NIV) All flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, Psa 8:8 (NIV) the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.

PRAYER FOR VERSE SEVEN: Your generosity goes on and on just here on earth. With it I can start to see down the corridors of eternity. I wouldn’t want anyone to miss seeing just how great You are. As I look at all You have given me, I see why You have commissioned me to tell everyone I can. This is a message that is beyond any human’s expectations. Many have no idea how wonderful You are. Many are struggling to earn it when You have provided it without price. Many are struggling to own it when it all belongs to You; and, You are giving it to Your people. All we have to do is receive Your Son and we get adopted into Your family. That makes us the inheritors of it all.

PRAYER FOR VERSE EIGHT: Help me not to try to get something the wrong way. I want to go through You to inherit the earth. Make me a good steward of the time, opportunities, and resources You have currently given me. Help me use them to get as many into Your new, coming kingdom. I want everyone possible to come to You and share in Your great generosity.

Praise Him For Who He Is
Psa 8:9 (NIV) O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You are the great and wonderful God. I want to praise You and worship You constantly. I want to give glory and honor to Your Name in front every person I get the opportunity to speak to. I want to let all know that You are God, that You are a majestic God, and that You are a generous God.
