Rom 8:13 (NIV) For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if BY the Spirit YOU put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. Jesus, help me make this my ultimate goal of resistance. Show me that if I put to death the misdeeds of the body, I will have closed the door to the input of the world and the devil. Help me see that they make their influences known through my body, Rom 7:22 (NIV) For in my inner being I delight in God’s law. Teach me that my spirit isn’t open to the influence of the world and the devil, just my body.

Rom 10:8 (NIV) But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming. Jesus, teach me that this is the foundational set of tools for getting everything I need as I read and study my Bible. However, show me that my mouth and my heart pose a problem to me.

• MY HEART: Jer 17:9 (NIV) The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?


• MY TONGUE: James 3:6 (NIV) The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

Jesus, I can see that there has to be some work done on my mouth and my heart. Since they are the part of me that uses confession and believing, they need to be healed from their difficulties. But, help me not get discouraged by this report. Show me that it is just pointing me to the fact that I can’t do anything without You. You alone can tame my tongue and heal my heart. Teach me that the important thing about the above Scriptures is, they keep me from putting my faith in my mouth and my heart. Show me that when I get successful with confession and believing, I am going to know that it was all You.

Rom 10:10 (NIV) For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Jesus, since my mouth and my heart are typically the most difficult part of me to control, it was a miracle of God for You to use them to save and justify me. But, obviously You worked that miracle and empowered me to believe with my heart and confess with my mouth. Now I need more miracles worked on my mouth and heart.

Mat 6:21 (NIV) For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Jesus, help me understand that those things I consider valuable direct my heart. If I consider my career important, then my heart will devote itself to sending me emotions that facilitate me reaching that goal. If I want to make enough money to retire, then my heart will take on that assignment. Show me that it will send negative emotions when I am doing things that are keeping me from making the money. And, it will send me positive emotions when I am doing what it takes to retire.

Mat 6:33 (NIV) But seek FIRST His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these THINGS will be given to you as well. Jesus, show me that if I do this, when I get THINGS, I will use them to help people. But, if I seek first THINGS, I will use people to get those things. Jesus, Your way blesses me and blesses the people around me. The world’s way cheats me and I cheat the people around me. So, let my heart be one of the first things I apply confessing and believing to. Help me make righteousness my heart’s priority.

Mat 12:34 (NIV) You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. Jesus, teach me that the confessions of my mouth are based on the content of my heart. Help me see that whatever I store in my heart is what will come out of my mouth. If I allow You to help me evaluate my conversations, I will get a true picture of the content of my heart. Cleanse my heart and fill it with the right things.

Mat 6:22-23 (NIV) The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole BODY will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole BODY will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! Jesus, help me examine all of those things I look at and listen to. Help me see that they are pouring things into my heart on a regular basis. I am choosing what I look at and listen to. Show me that this tells my heart what I consider valuable. It then stores it up for future guidance in sending me emotional signals.

Mat 12:35 (NIV) The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. Jesus, teach me what makes me say good or evil things. Teach me that the things I have been CHOOSING to look at and listen to are doing it. They have been stored up in my heart and mind and are now coming out of my mouth. Empower me to change my diet of eye and ear input. Show me that, that will be me resisting anything that is hurting me. Renewal from You will take place through it.
