Jesus, when I look at an animal, I can see that it has survival drives. It will do its best to get the food it needs, the protection it needs, and the position it needs. Show me that depending on the type of animal, its methods of survival are either devious or aggressive. Teach me that different people’s bodies approach these survival procedures like different kinds of animals, if not brought under the fruit of the Spirit. Help me see that my body has certain characteristics that, if compared with the large variety of animals on the planet, will demonstrate one type of procedure or another. Make it clear to me that I may not be allowing it to freely exercise these procedures; but, if left to its own devices, it will.

Jesus, teach me that my body has procreation drives; these sex drives are also handled from an animalistic level, if not controlled. Help me see that there are civilized approaches, spiritual approaches, and animalistic approaches. While using a certain amount of being civilized, teach me that here are the types of animalistic things my body wants to do: Gal 5:19-21 (NIV) The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery (excessive indulgence in sensual pleasures); idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Rom 7:22-24 (NIV) For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; But I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?

Jesus, sometimes I find myself living like Romans 7:15-24; I need You to show me, a spirit being, how to start winning over my body. Teach me that You have some power-emotions for me, a spirit being, that help me to overcome the drives of my body. Teach me that these are what I need: Gal 5:22-23 (NIV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Jesus, the Spirit Himself testifies with my spirit that I am God’s child (Rom 8:16). Teach me that the Holy Spirit is talking to me directly as a spirit being. Teach me that the reason I know all these things in the Bible belong to me is because the Holy Spirit is telling me, I am God’s child, a member of God’s family, and a citizen of His Kingdom. I know I have inherited God and all He provides. Rom 8:17 (NIV) Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory. Help me keep in mind that all the promises and provisions of God are mine.

1 Cor 6:19-20 (NIV) Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, Who is IN you, Whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. Jesus, make it clear to me that I, as a spirit being, am no longer alone; I have God, the Holy Spirit living inside me. Help me see that as a spirit being, I can cooperate with God, the Holy Spirit and have the power to do things I was never able to do before. Show me that prior to the Holy Spirit joining my spirit, my body was the dominate entity. It was able to make me a prisoner. But, now my spirit has the power of the Holy Spirit to take advantage of.

Jesus, make it clear to me that if I live according to the sinful nature, I will die; but if by the Spirit I put to death the misdeeds of the body, I will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God (Rom 8:13-14). Teach me that the sinful nature is in my body; the Holy Spirit is also in my body. But, help me see that He is inside me to help and empower me to take control over my body. Help me understand that my spirit can take advantage of the Holy Spirit’s power and put to death the misdeeds of the body. Show me that it is a choice on my part: but IF by the Spirit YOU put to death the misdeeds of the body. Teach me that first, I have to want or DESIRE to use the Holy Spirit’s power. Second, I have to STUDY and learn how to use the Holy Spirit’s power.

Jesus, since the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, has come inside me, He will guide me into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell me what is yet to come (John 16:13). Teach me that the Holy Spirit ties me directly to You; my spirit and the Holy Spirit are connected directly to all You are. Just like my phone helps me communicate with people who are far away from me, so does the Holy Spirit connect me to You. But, help me understand that He does it in a very real and personal way. He gives me a communication connection with You that is on a Spirit-to-spirit level.

Jesus, since the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, has come inside me, He will guide me into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell me what is yet to come. He will bring glory to You by taking from what is Yours and making it known to me. All that belongs to the Father is Yours. That is why You said the Spirit will take from what is Mine and make it known to you (John 16:13-15). Show me that just like my phone doesn’t speak on its own, He (the Holy Spirit) will NOT speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears. Help me see that it will be like You are right there with my spirit. You and me will speak Spirit to spirit in a spiritual language that is much more powerful and efficient than human communication.

Jesus, teach me that in the same way, the Spirit helps me in my weakness. I do not know what U ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for me with groans that WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS (Rom 8:26). Make it clear to me that I have Your mind: “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But I have the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16). Teach me that my mind of Jesus is tied to Your mind; You and I can communicate by me knowing, seeing, feeling, and understanding something You want me to EXPERIENCE. Without words, I will suddenly know, see, feel, and understand something directly from You through the Holy Spirit. It will be just like I experienced it in real life.

Jesus, help me understand that as for me, the anointing I received from Him remains in me, and I do not need anyone to teach me. But as His anointing teaches me about ALL things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught me, empower me to remain in You (1 John 2:27). Make it clear to me that these studies are useless without You using them to teach me through the Holy Spirit. It isn’t what these words say that matters as much as what I get out of them. If they try to give my spirit words that set me free; but, my spirit can’t hear, understand, and yield to them, then I get cheated. Mark 4:9 (NIV) Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” These study words must be used by You to teach my spirit. AND, my spirit must have ears to hear.
