Hopelessness is a lot like depression. It puts a negative spin on everything in your life. It takes away your desire to even try to deal with the issues of life.
Hopelessness causes you to feel like it wouldn’t do any good to try to solve any of the problems and challenges you face. You just can’t seem to feel like your efforts would improve anything. But, with Jesus, He will show you how He plans to start doing very important things FOR you.
When you start to try to improve on something in your life, the concept of “why even try” immediately comes into your mind. You feel like nothing is working for you; it seems like no matter how much effort you put into it, it always fails. That is a feeling that you WON’T have to try to defeat. With Jesus, it isn’t about what you can do for yourself, it is about what Jesus will do for you, to you, with you, and through you.
Hopelessness makes it look like you and your abilities are just too inadequate to handle the issues you face. The truth of the matter is, this is true of everyone. Just because you have come to the end of YOUR rope doesn’t mean you are without hope. Your limitations will become Jesus’ opportunity to show you how great, loving, and powerful He is.
You may have to spend some time talking to Jesus, asking Him to empower you to put forth this effort. Once Jesus does give you the power to start looking into these studies, He will keep on helping you understand and feel small aspects of hope.
