Mat 5:14-16 (NIV) You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Now, Let’s Look At Light

You ARE the light of the world. We have talked a lot about light shining through glass. In that example, God is the light and we are the transparent glass that allows the light of God to shine through us.

Now let’s look at us being the light. We are responsible for helping people see the truth about God. Having darkness requires no power. Dispelling darkness does take power. The world is in darkness and desperately needs light so they can see what is going on. Only God has enough power to dispel the darkness in the human heart.

Luke 11:33-36 (NIV) No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead he puts it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light.

Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be completely lighted, as when the light of a lamp shines on you.
