First you have to have KNOWLEDGE of the words to a Scripture, then you have to UNDERSTAND what those words mean, after that has to come WISDOM. Wisdom is knowing how to use or apply knowledge and understanding. Understanding the meaning of a Scripture or passage isn’t the same as knowing how it is to be applied to our lives.

We can know what a Scripture says and even know what it means and still not know how it is to be used in real life. Wisdom comes from Jesus showing us how Scripture is to be applied to our lives. As I am sure you know, the Bible isn’t just an information book. The Bible is a power and wisdom book. It offers life transformation in every area of need. The more Biblical information we know and the more we understand what it means, the more doors are then opened to provide freedom in new areas.

The procedures for obtaining wisdom:

1. Ask God to deliver you from human and worldly wisdom.
2. Pray and ask God for wisdom in general. James 1:5 (NIV) If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, Who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
3. Pray and ask God for the specific wisdom that applies to the Scripture or topic you are studying.
4. Pray and make sure you understand the meaning of the Scripture you are seeking life change through. Then let Jesus show you how it is to be applied to your life.
5. Let God search your heart and make sure you truly WANT to know how this Scripture could be applied to you.
6. If you find some resistance, fear, or misunderstanding concerning the Scripture which is about to be applied:
     a. Ask God to help you to be willing.
     b. Let Him start explaining the benefits.
     c. Let Him help you understand the purpose.
     d. Let Him teach you to trust Him with or without understanding the implications.
