What School Did You Go To?
I love this part of this Scripture. They saw them as unschooled, ordinary men. The fact that these men didn’t go through their schools didn’t make them unschooled or ordinary. These men were actually the best trained men on the planet. And, they were far from ordinary.
We all fall for this at one time or another. We let the prestige, positions, worldly respect, power, and opportunities that come with the type of education that the world recognizes, push us into areas of training that Jesus doesn’t approve of. These attitudes can affect our churches, Sunday Schools, Bible Schools and Seminaries. Adequacy, education, qualifications, power, influence, success, and acceptance all come from Jesus’ disciple training system. |
It won’t be anything like we would experience in the world. And, we won’t crave any of these things like we use to. But, it is all there.
Luke 22:25-27 (NIV) Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as One Who serves.” Jesus’ school set the standard for how to lead, meet needs, evaluate success, and make life count for greatness in eternity. |
