Getting The Money Flowing
Acts 2:44-45 (NIV) All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.
That sounds really scary to us. I don’t mind giving things I don’t want any more to Salvation Army. But, selling my possessions and goods and giving them to any Christian who has a need? That is going to take a supernatural manifestation of God in my life. Rom 12:13 (NIV) Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. This sharing and being helped concept isn’t just an isolated event in some obscure place in the Bible. It is a foundational principle that shows up all over it. Jesus’ ministry was supported by people who shared their resources with Him. |
The disciples went out without any money or extra resources in their first ministerial training assignment. People shared their money and supplies with them. What scares us is the fact that we may get involved in such a principle and end up with all our money and supplies gone.
Money and possessions are attached to us and us to them in a very close way. Yet we still don’t consider it to be a serving of a master. If something becomes so important to us that we can’t give it up, what has it become in our life? We all say it; we can’t live without money. We all worry about what we would do if we ran out of money. Money is what makes it possible for us to have a roof over our head, a bed to sleep in, clothes to wear, and it makes it possible to have food to eat. If we give our money to someone else, we will lose these things. The next verse in our study deals with this concern. |
