Jesus’ Sermon On The Mount
Study Thirty-One

This Is Day Five
You Are On Page Two of Two Pages

We CAN But Don’t HAVE TO Win
The elements of the battle are not clear to the average Christian. The prayer: “Deliver me from the evil one” causes two things to happen. First, Satan can no longer MAKE us do anything. Second, God empowers us to NOT do Satan’s bidding, but, DOES NOT FORCE US TO WIN THE VICTORY. We are still able to lose if we choose to. Our faith will have the final say in the matter. The prayer makes it POSSIBLE to defeat Satan.
To the degree we build a close and intimate relationship with God is the degree of faith we have in Him. This entire prayer is dependent on a close and intimate relationship with God. If the beatitudes have been used to build such a relationship, then this prayer is going to be very powerful and successful in our life and ministry. If it just becomes a ritual, then it will lose its power and we will start being defeated.
