The DNA that is passed from person to person from one generation to the next shapes our physical characteristics. Our spiritual family does the same. The Old Testament gives the account of the beginning of man in Adam and Eve. Spiritually speaking, we didn’t fare well with them. We inherited what is often referred to as the “Adamic Nature.” That is what the Bible talks about in Psalm 51:5 (NIV) “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.”

However, starting with Abraham, God began to build a new family. The Bible says in Genesis 17:4 (NIV) “As for Me [God], this is My covenant with you [Abraham]: You will be the father of many nations....” This family produced a family tree, a heritage, and a legacy. Let’s learn about the DNA we are based on.

Once we get to know our spiritual inheritance from our spiritual family, it will change our life and ministry. The spiritual channel of DNA is passed from person to person from one generation to the next by means of a powerful mechanism called faith. The first family member, Abraham, started it off and from him God built a whole new spiritual family.

Rom 4:16 (NIV) Therefore, the promise COMES BY FAITH, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring--not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

Rom 1:17 (NIV) For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
