JESUS’ MINISTRY: Mat 4:18-20 (NIV) As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed Him.

Who Put You In Charge?
Let’s say that Jesus came by our work place. Could or would He say to us: “Drop your work and come follow Me?” Were things different back then? Was their situation different than ours? Would Zebedee and Peter’s wife be more understanding than our spouse and relatives? Is it morally, ethically, Biblically, or spiritually correct to ask something like this of me and my family? These are hard questions that all of us have felt the pain of conscience on as we have read this and other similar passages.
I suppose if Jesus came to my workplace in the flesh and asked me to quit my job and follow Him, I would do it. As long as I knew that the God of the universe was specifically talking to me, I would say “yes” to Him. However, this isn’t the only issue, is it? Would I know His voice? Would I believe He really said that to me? Did He mean now? Was this a literal command or just a spiritual test to see if I am willing?
