Most people know what the chemical composition of salt is, sodium-chloride, right? How many know what components create spiritual salt, the Beatitudes.

If I understood my biology professor correctly, none of us want to salt our soup with sodium or chloride by themselves. One will blow our face off and the other will poison us. But, once they are properly bonded together, they become taste enhancers and facilitate proper functioning of our body’s system. That is how the Beatitudes have to be looked at.

None of these characteristics are optional. They all must be bonded together by the Holy Spirit in correct proportions. Then once they are working in unity, we are ready to start salting soup. But, be sure not to start salting people’s soup prior to that unity.

Many have had their ministries blow up and others be poisoned thereby. I know that none of us are going to be perfect in any of these areas while on earth. But an even, steady growth must be taking place throughout all the days of our lives and ministry. We need to be continually yielding to the Holy Spirit in all these areas at all times.
