Temptation
Gen 3:6 (NIV) When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Eve had to look. Once she took a good look, she “saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food.” She wouldn’t have felt the hunger had she not looked. When she turned her eyes toward the forbidden fruit, she saw that it was “pleasing to the eye.” She wouldn’t have felt the pull to continue looking had she not looked in the first place. |
But, once she used her eye muscles to view the fruit, she saw that it was “desirable for gaining wisdom.” Now we all know that she couldn’t see any qualities for gaining wisdom by looking. Satan had suggested that to her before she looked. Gen 3:4-5 (NIV) “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” But when she looked, the suggestion took substance. |
