Rom 9:20 (NIV) But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to Him who formed it, “Why did You make me like this?”

Our first assignment is our marriage. Our second assignment is our family. Then our next assignment is the rest of the work of God. How are we going to succeed with our marriage? Actually the same exact tools for succeeding with God are used in the marriage. We as an individual are only as mature as the weakest member of our marriage.

What marriage couples want to do is act as two individuals when it comes to spiritual growth and ministry. I have my relationship with God and you have yours. As I am sure you know, God sees us as one person.

If I were out jogging with my wife, I could probably out run her. I would probably feel like I got a lot better workout. However, once I got home and my wife finally came in, the next workout would be a relational one. Somebody would be somewhat displeased with me. The ministry may be a race. But, our marriage isn’t unless it would be a sack race. You know. The one where you and your partner put one leg in a sack and try to run together.
