Disciples who are Jesus’ disciples do what they are asked, when they are asked. I am pretty sure this isn’t Jesus’ first contact with these guys. But, it is His first assignment for beginning disciples. The entry level requirement was, drop what you are doing and come with Me. What’s wrong with most of our discipleship training programs? Us! We feel that the entry level requirements are too high. If this is the first step to become a disciple, no one is going to join. So, bar number one gets lowered.

We must be the first ones to change on this matter. If we refuse to respond immediately, we can expect our discipleship training to convey the same attitude. We must obey when He asks something this hard of us. We have to have such a relationship with God that we know it really is God. If we don’t, we will start trying to rationalize the call and convince ourselves that we really haven’t heard from God. God must be able to come to us and ask us to do something really scary and our answer be “yes” to Him. It is true that God’s will is different for each of us. But, God’s requirements are the same. We must respond immediately to whatever He asks us to do.
