I Heard You
The main issue here is the fact that Jesus isn’t impressed with us when we stop off at the hearing aspect of what He tells us. Luke 6:47-49 (NIV) I will show you what he is like who comes to Me and hears My words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears My words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete. He wants to see the things He tells us, showing up in the activities of our lives. And, He wants us to teach our trainees the same thing.

Mat 28:19-20 (NIV) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to OBEY EVERYTHING I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Hearing something and storing it in our brain isn’t enough. We can see in the above verses that He considers obedience to be His definition of us remaining in Him and His words remaining in us. It is our goal as a Christian to obey everything He has commanded us; and it is our goal as a minister to teach all the disciples in every nation to obey everything He commanded us. That will keep us in Jesus; and that will keep Him and His words in us at all times. So, what are the benefits of remaining in Jesus and He and His Words remaining in us? If we learn to obey, we can ask what we wish and it will be given to us. |
