Godliness

Knowing Isn’t Enough
1 Cor 8:1-3 (NIV) Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. But the man who loves God is known by God.

Much of the time we just want to know what the answer is. In this example, can we eat meat offered to idols? Yes or no?
Here is where the “why” comes into the issue. The “knowledge” answer is yes. But, the love answer is more like, no. Can it hurt those who know that idols are nothing? No. Well then, it is okay for me to eat meat offered to idols. Not necessarily.

It is Biblically legal for us to eat meat offered to idols. The meat hasn’t been contaminated spiritually in any way. For a Pharisee the answer is cut and dried. If it is legal, do it. It is all about the law. With God, however, it is all about relationships through love.

This concludes your studying for today.

what you have studied so far.
