Choose Where You Spend Your Time Looking
Mat 6:23a But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.
Bad eyes look at dark things. Bad eyes see dark things as being good things. They see dark things as being the answer to all they need. It appears to bad eyes that great pleasure, satisfaction, blessings, and accomplishment will come out of dark things. Bad eyes expose our life to things that dominate our time, effort, and money until we run out of life and then stand before God. Bad eyes make us feel like everything is fine. When bad eyes expose us to darkness, we are completely anesthetized to the warnings that would help us realize that we are in danger. Salvation is so much more than escaping the punishment of hell. |
God has so much more to offer than anything this world has to offer. When Jesus was in the wilderness being tempted by the devil, the devil tried to get Jesus to sell out for all this world has to offer. Not just part of it. The devil offered Jesus all of it.
Mat 4:8-10 (NIV) Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him ALL the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “ALL this I will give You,” he said, “if You will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from Me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’” Many sell out for just a small part of Satan’s kingdom. Jesus came from heaven. He had already seen its beauty and value. Once we see all God is offering, we have no interest in all the devil is offering. If we will allow God to show us the beauty and value of His Kingdom, we won’t take the devil’s offer even if he offers us all of it. |
