JESUS’ MINISTRY: Mat 3:13-17 (NIV) Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?” Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on Him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is My Son, Whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.”

Total Obedience
Jesus is just about ready to start His ministry. Just a few loose ends to tie down. We usually assume that since He is Jesus He doesn’t need any preparation to do the ministry. But, here is Jesus following His Father’s will to the letter. No short cuts.

What is He concerned with? Is He going over His notes on organizational structure? Does He need to go over His studies on strategies for building a Christian movement? He only has approximately three and a half years to start a Christian movement that will last for thousands of years and cover the entire planet.
He doesn’t have a moment to lose.

What is the priority here? “It is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” He is about 30 years old and He still hasn’t done any ministry. The world is in desperate need of a Savior and Jesus is going to get Himself baptized. Some of us were going full blast in the ministry by the time we were 18 years old. How does the Father feel about this delay in ministry? “This is My Son, Whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.” Oh! Well, this little stop off to be baptized must be okay.
