Mat 6:9-13 (NIV) This, then, is HOW you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us TODAY our DAILY bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

Having A Discussion
Having Jesus teach us how to pray is one of the most awesome things that can happen to us. The communication between Him and the Father is a very beautiful thing. That is what we should want for our relationship with the Father. These aren’t just words. They are a major part of our intimate communication with our heavenly Father.

As we have already seen, this is a private moment where we are getting right down to the main issues. No special phrases to recite like a ritual. No eloquent words to impress Him with. We are reaching out to Him for some very important answers to prayer. The first issue we have to face is who we are in relationship to Who He is. What matters to God? We do. When we come to Him, who we are on the inside matters more than the words we pray.
We Are Children Talking To Our Father
We can say: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name.” But, they can just be fancy words or they can be straight from our heart. We are used to talking to beings who struggle with knowing what we “really” mean. God is looking at the real us. He sees the feelings, beliefs, spiritual conditions, and attitudes in our heart long before the words come out of our mouth.

Jesus isn’t giving us a prayer to recite. He is giving us a relationship to be sought. “Our Father” aren’t just some words to call God. It isn’t like writing a letter: “Dear John.” The Holy Spirit is ready to get involved with us in producing a mighty moment in our time with God.
