It’s A Will Problem
“...ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.” John 15:7 (NIV) If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you WISH, and it will be given you.
“Whatever you wish” could seem to be saying that any of our desires, will, preferences, wishes, hopes, and plans will be given to us. That approach to interpreting this Scripture would make it say that we will get even our momentary whims honored. God isn’t going to give us carte blanche control over answers to our prayers under these types of circumstances. |
This Scripture makes it clear that some special criteria are going to have to be met. Our remaining in Him and His words remaining in us are going to have a tremendous influence on our will, preferences, wishes, hopes, plans, and desires.
In the above study we skipped the will as a separate issue. We looked at the procedures for obtaining knowledge, understanding, wisdom, and life by the Spirit. The will issue was mentioned as we studied these four procedures; but, not dealt with specifically. So, let us look at one of the most important issues of all, our will. Our will is a huge matter with God. He honors our will as it relates to our life; and He honors it as it relates to our ministry. How we live and how we do ministry will only be done through the Holy Spirit, if we WANT it to be that way. |
