Adultery
Wait, I’m Not Ready 1 Cor 10:12-13 (NIV) So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! This Scripture is saying that we can start “feeling” like we are invincible. Sometimes we think we can handle anything. That is faith in one’s own self. We must immediately turn to God. No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. We aren’t going to be surprised by some unusual, weird temptation that no one has ever heard of. This means we are going to have plenty of warnings, opportunities for training, and opportunities for getting ready. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. |
Even though Jesus gave Peter plenty of warning, he still fell. Did he get a temptation that was beyond what he was able to bear? No. Jesus tried to get him ready and he wouldn’t respond. David was over his head. Was it because it was something he couldn’t have handled through God’s power? No. He just wasn’t tapped into God’s power at the moment. Because David had been neglecting his relationship with God, he faced major temptations and trials that he wasn’t spiritually equipped to deal with. Consequently, he made one bad decision after another. I’m Too Well Trained
For That To Happen To Me This happens to ministers, not because they are still untrained Christians. They HAVE HAD lots of training and lots of wonderful times with God. But, the experiences and exposures to God and His Word in your past will not take the place of your need for more of God today. You MUST REMAIN in Jesus and Jesus and His Word must REMAIN in you (John 15:4-17). There will NEVER come a time in your Christian life and ministry where you can slack off and slow down in your pursuit of God and all He has to offer.
