Jesus’ Sermon On The Mount
Study Thirty-Three

This Is Day Four

Mat 6:19-21 (NIV) Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Investment Opportunities
Mat 13:44-46 (NIV) The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

Before the man found the treasure, his value estimation was in “all he had.” But, he found a “a better deal.” When the man found the treasure, it changed his whole way of thinking. That is what Jesus is trying to help happen to us. He is showing us a treasure that is so valuable, it can enable us to go and sell all we have and invest it all in the eternity He has prepared for us.

God ALWAYS Produces Incredible Things
John 14:2-3 (NIV) In My Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you.
I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am.

We have to see the value of heaven and the kingdom of God. What are eternal riches worth? To our body it is just pie in the sky by and by. It can’t imagine anything beyond this earth. To it, this has to be as good as it gets. What we forget is that the God, Who made this earth, says that heaven is far superior.

We are like the children of Israel. As they left Egypt, they couldn’t imagine that the promised land could possibly be better than Egypt. Every time God didn’t come through with the things they demanded, they talked about killing Moses and going back to Egypt. It took the mighty power of God to finally get the next generation of people into the promised land. There was no way God could talk the first generation into taking the promised land, because their hearts were in Egypt. It wasn’t until the second generation came into existence that God found a people who could see the better deal.
