Mat 5:10-12 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Let’s Finish Up Your Love Training
John 21:14-19 (NIV) This was now the third time Jesus appeared to His disciples after He was raised from the dead. When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love Me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love You.” Jesus said, “Feed My lambs.”

Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love Me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, You know that I love You.” Jesus said, “Take care of My sheep.” The third time He said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?” He said, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said, “Feed My sheep.”

“I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.”
Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then He said to him, “Follow Me!”

Peter has decided to pick up his old trade. He is a failure as a minister of Jesus, he thinks. He concludes that the only thing he is good at is fishing. Not only does Peter go fishing, but he drags his old fishing buddies back into their old trade. Then Jesus shows up. Jesus has a rehabilitation plan for Peter. It is going to be a love check.

The question is, has Peter ever stopped loving Jesus? Peter loved Jesus even at the moment when he was denying Him. Now that is hard for all of us to believe. It is true Peter loved his own life more than he loved Jesus. But, Peter loved Jesus a whole lot. But, then came the time for Peter to grow to an even deeper commitment of love. Jesus was helping Peter grow to a whole new level of love relationship with God.
