We even have to look to God when we read our Bibles. The Bible cannot come under our control. Everything written in God’s Word has to remain under God’s control. He has to decide what Scriptures to apply, when, where, and how. We can’t use our Bible as an excuse for not listening to God’s continued guidance. If we start interpreting God’s Word, deciding when, where and how to apply it; it is then that we are no longer under God’s leadership.

2 Pet 1:20-21 (NIV) Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God AS THEY WERE CARRIED ALONG BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.

God originated His Word by humans who were being guided by the Holy Spirit. It never had its origin in the will of man. And, it isn’t going to have its usage in the will of man. It came into existence as people were carried along by the Holy Spirit. And, it is going to be properly used by those who are carried along by the Holy Spirit. Its meaning, application, and verse selection must stay under His guidance.

Even while reading our Bibles we can go astray, if we put our dependency on our own brain, skills, abilities, and intelligence. God has to be constantly speaking to us, telling us what it means, how it is to be applied, who to apply it to, and which Scripture is applicable to the situation. God wants this kind of continuing relationship with us. And, we need this kind of continuing relationship with Him.
