You Need To Allow Yourself
To See The Value In Matthew 13:44-46 we saw people who were looking for the better deal and recognized a better deal when they saw it. What happens to us is, we get satisfied with the way things are. We aren’t interested in something far superior to what we have. Jesus, in His ministry on this earth, tried to make us dissatisfied with things the way they are. He wanted us to find a treasure beyond our wildest dreams that would keep us from ever being the same again. When the merchant found a pearl of great value, he couldn’t live without purchasing it. He went out and sold everything he had.
Now, what if, after he sold everything, he still didn’t have enough money? That is the situation we are in as it relates to the eternal better deal. |
Jesus asks us this question: Mat 16:26 (NIV) What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
Even if we owned the whole world, we still wouldn’t have enough resources to purchase the salvation for our soul. We don’t know about you, but, we are a long way off from owning the whole world’s wealth. Even if we were rich we still would be a long way off from owning the whole world’s wealth. Therefore, we obviously don’t have much to give up. Salvation and all that it opens up to us in eternity is more valuable and more expensive that all the world’s wealth. If we can get our hands on that kind of wealth, selling all we have and buying that field is worth it. |
