Jesus’ Sermon On The Mount

Who Did You Vote For?
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

This doesn’t mean that we are going to spend eternity on earth if we are meek. We all want to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven for eternity. In this verse, inheriting the earth is talking about now and what is going to happen next in eternity.

Psa 2:7-9 (NIV) I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, “You are My Son; today I have become your Father. Ask of Me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. You will rule them with an iron scepter; You will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

This Scripture is a prophecy concerning Jesus, the Son of God.

Heb 5:5 (NIV) So Christ also did not take upon Himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to Him, “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.”
As it relates to people, He is setting up Jesus’ Kingdom on this earth now. Those who “vote” for Him are making a personal decision as to whether or not they will become a part of that Kingdom. In America, we vote for a president. Then the Popular vote is counted and the majority reveals to the Electoral system how the Electoral vote should be expressed. From this system the majority decides who will be our next president. In Jesus’ Kingdom, no one person nor group is deciding whether or not He is going to be King over all the earth.

Our “vote” only decides whether or not we will be in that Kingdom. No one can “vote” in our place. No one else can decide whether or not we will spend eternity with God. We have one “vote” and that “vote” decides our eternal destiny and our eternal destiny alone. That is what Jesus meant when He said the Kingdom of Heaven is near. He was starting the process of setting up His Kingdom in the hearts of people.

Mat 4:17 (NIV) From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

Mat 4:23 (NIV) Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
